What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get MySQL preinstalled on Ubuntu 18.04, running as one Amazon EC2 virtual machine. The instance type you pick sets the CPU and memory available, plus the hourly software rate. One dimension equals one running instance, billed per hour of run time.
Am I charged when I stop or pause the instance?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. When you stop the instance, the software charge stops. You still may pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume while the instance sits stopped. Restart the instance and the hourly charge resumes.
How does my cost change if I move to a bigger instance type?
Each instance type is billed independently at its own hourly rate. Larger types cost more per hour because they provide more CPU and memory. You are not charged for two types at once. Switching means launching a new instance and stopping the old one.

Usage instructions
1. SSH to the instance:
SSH into the instance using the public IP and log in as the 'ubuntu' user, using the private key specified during launch.
2. Run OS commands via SSH:
Once logged in, use sudo to run commands that require root access.
3. Secure MySQL:
To secure your MySQL installation, run the following command:
mysql_secure_installation
This will guide you through setting up a root password, removing insecure default settings, and improving MySQL security.
4. Access the MySQL CLI:
After securing MySQL, you can access the MySQL command-line interface (CLI) by running:
mysql -u root -p
You will be prompted for the root password you just set during the mysql_secure_installation process.
5. Create a new database:
Once logged into the MySQL CLI, you can create a new database with the following command:
CREATE DATABASE dbname;
Replace dbname with your desired database name.
