You pay by the hour for Oracle Linux 8.6 running on Amazon EC2. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you launch, not on separate software tiers. Smaller instances like t2 and t3 sizes carry lower hourly rates. Larger compute, memory, storage, and accelerated instances (such as c, m, r, x, i, g, and p families) cost more per hour as capacity grows. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. Choose the instance that fits your workload to set your effective price.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get when I pay the hourly rate for a given instance type?
You get Oracle Linux 8.6 packaged as a ready-to-run machine image on that Amazon EC2 instance type. The hourly rate covers the software image itself. The instance size you pick sets the CPU, memory, and storage capacity you receive, and your rate follows that choice.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running hours only. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay separate AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but those are AWS infrastructure costs, not this listing's software charge.
If I switch to a larger instance type, how does my bill change?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type with its own hourly rate. Switching to a larger type applies that type's rate for every hour it runs. The change is not automatic; you launch or resize the instance yourself. You pay only for the hours each instance actually runs.
