Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for this software image, billed per running EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance size you launch. Options span general purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, and high-memory families, in sizes from nano and micro up to metal and multi-terabyte machines. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates. You are not locked into a single choice; you select the instance type that fits your workload, and charges accrue only while instances run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the matching type, billed per hour. The rate covers the Oracle Linux 8.6 image with its bundled security agent, updates, and firewall settings. You pay the same hourly rate for each instance of that type you launch.
Software charges accrue only while an instance runs. Stopped or terminated instances stop accruing the hourly software fee. Note that stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage costs for attached volumes, but the software licence meters running hours only.
Each instance bills independently at the hourly rate for its own type. Running a large and a small instance produces two separate charges on the same invoice. Your total is the sum of hours across every running instance, so smaller or fewer instances lower the bill.
