Larger instance sizes carry higher hourly rates because they provide more compute, memory, or storage. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and the software cost is billed per running hour.

You get a preconfigured MySQL database on an Ubuntu 22 image, running on the Amazon EC2 instance type you pick. Each dimension maps to one instance type. The compute, memory, and storage you receive match that instance's specification. The software charge is added per running hour on top of the AWS infrastructure cost.
The software charge meters running hours only. When you stop the instance, the per-hour software rate stops accruing. Stored data on attached volumes may still incur AWS storage fees, but those are separate from the software charge. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software billing.
Your rate is tied to the specific instance dimension you launch. Moving to a larger size within a family, or to a higher-capacity family, changes your hourly rate to that instance's rate. The change is not automatic; you choose the instance when you launch. You pay the new rate only for hours run on it.

Usage instructions
1. SSH to the instance:
- SSH into the instance using the public IP and log in as the 'ubuntu' user, using the private key specified during launch.
2. Run OS commands via SSH:
- Once logged in, use sudo to run commands that require root access.
3. Secure MySQL:
- To secure your MySQL installation, run the following command: mysql_secure_installation This will guide you through setting up a root password, removing insecure default settings, and improving MySQL security.
4. Access the MySQL CLI:
- After securing MySQL, you can access the MySQL command-line interface (CLI) by running: mysql -u root -p You will be prompted for the root password you just set during the mysql_secure_installation process.
5. Create a new database:
- Once logged into the MySQL CLI, you can create a new database with the following command: CREATE DATABASE dbname; Replace dbname with your desired database name.
