You pay by the hour for this Ubuntu image bundled with a security agent. Pricing is usage-based, with no upfront commitment. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you launch. Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, and high-memory families in sizes from nano to metal. Larger instances with more compute, memory, or storage carry higher hourly rates. You choose the instance that fits your workload and pay only for the hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for this product?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the chosen type, billed per hour. The rate bundles the Ubuntu image and the security agent onto that specific instance size. You launch the instance you need and are charged for each hour it runs.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. Fully stopped instances do not accrue software fees. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage costs for attached volumes, but the software meter counts running hours only.
How do I lower my hourly cost if my workload is small?
Your rate follows the instance type you launch. Choosing a smaller family or size, such as a nano or micro instance, carries a lower hourly rate than large or metal instances. Match the instance to your workload to control cost, since you pay only for hours run.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
