You pay by the hour for this hardened Ubuntu 26 image, billed per running instance. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each rate maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type you choose at launch. The hundreds of options cover general purpose, compute, memory, storage, GPU, and high-performance families, from small shared instances up to bare-metal and multi-terabyte machines. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates. You pick the instance that fits your workload, and the software charge scales with that choice. Costs stop when you stop the instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the hardened Ubuntu 26 software license tied to your chosen EC2 instance type. AWS charges for the underlying compute, storage, and data transfer separately. Your invoice shows the software charge alongside standard AWS infrastructure fees for the same instance.
The software fee meters running hours only. A stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the software license bills active runtime, not idle or powered-off time.
Each instance type carries its own hourly software rate. Switching to a type with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware raises the hourly charge. The change takes effect when you launch the new type. You pay the rate matching whichever instance is running at the time.
