You pay by the hour for the software running on an Amazon EC2 instance. The price you pay depends on which instance type you choose. The listing supports hundreds of instance types across general purpose, compute, memory, storage, and accelerated computing families. Instance sizes range from small (nano, micro) to very large (metal, 96xlarge) options. Larger instances carry more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware, so their hourly rate is higher. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. You can start, stop, and switch instance types as your needs change.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the software license for OpenVPN on hardened Ubuntu 22 with the Connection Auditor, running on your chosen EC2 instance. It does not include the underlying AWS compute, storage, or data transfer fees. AWS bills those separately based on the instance and resources you use.
Software charges accrue per hour only while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the software license meters running time only. Restarting resumes hourly charges.
Your hourly software rate matches whichever instance type is running at the time. Switching to a larger type raises the hourly rate; switching to a smaller one lowers it. The change applies going forward from the switch, not retroactively. You can change types as your needs shift.
