You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you choose to run this software. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and specialized capacity of that instance. General-purpose (m, t), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r, x, z, u), storage (i, d, h), and accelerated (g, p, inf, trn, dl) families are all available. Larger instances within a family cost more per hour. You only pay for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly charge for each dimension actually cover?
Each dimension maps to one running EC2 instance of the named type. The hourly rate is the software licence fee for that instance size. You get the software pre-installed as a ready-to-launch machine image, with updates, firewalls, and network protocols included.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
The software fee meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Underlying AWS storage costs may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from this listing's hourly software rate.
How do I move to a larger instance type if my needs grow?
Each instance type is billed independently by the hour. To scale, you launch a instance of a different type and stop the smaller one. Your bill then reflects the hourly rate tied to the new instance size. There is no upfront commitment to any single type.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
