Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for a PostgreSQL image on hardened Amazon Linux 2023, with software support included. Pricing is charged per running EC2 instance hour. The many dimensions are not tiers or feature levels. Each one maps to a specific EC2 instance type and size, from small general-purpose instances up to large memory-, compute-, storage-, and GPU-focused instances. Your hourly rate depends on the instance type you choose. Larger or specialized instances carry different rates than smaller ones. You stop paying when you stop the instance, so cost scales with usage.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one billed unit map to in this listing?
One unit is one running EC2 instance measured per hour. The dimension name matches an AWS instance type and size. You pay the hourly software rate for each hour that instance runs. Two running instances of the same type accrue two hourly charges at once.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software charge meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from this listing's per-hour software charge.
Does the hourly rate change if I switch to a different instance type?
Yes. Each instance type and size is its own billing dimension with its own hourly rate. If you resize or move to a different instance family, billing follows the rate for the new type. There is no upfront commitment, so cost tracks the instance you run.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When we used to run PostgreSQL on our on-premise server, we needed to patch the security updates manually. Whenever there was a new version of PostgreSQL, we had to manually update our software. But this is not the case with PostgreSQL on Amazon Linux 2 as it comes with an auto-update feature and the security patches are automatically applied as soon as they arrive.
