You pay by the hour for a hardened Windows Server 2019 image. Pricing is not one flat rate. Instead, each rate ties to the EC2 instance type you launch. You pick from hundreds of instance sizes across general purpose, compute, memory, storage, GPU, and high-performance families. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or accelerators carry higher hourly rates. Smaller instances cost less per hour. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. There is no upfront commitment. Your total cost scales directly with the instance size you choose and how long you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get when I launch this hardened Windows Server 2019 image, and what does the hourly rate cover?
You get a pre-configured Windows Server 2019 image with security hardening and the latest updates applied. The hourly rate covers the software licence for the image. It runs on the EC2 instance type you select. AWS compute, storage, and network charges are billed separately by AWS.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running instance-hours only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is a separate AWS fee, not the image charge.
Why does the hourly rate change depending on which instance type I pick?
Each EC2 instance type carries its own hourly software rate. The rate reflects the size and resources of that instance family. Choosing a larger instance with more CPU, memory, or accelerators raises the hourly charge. The charge is set per instance-hour and applies to whichever type you launch.
