Instead, each rate maps to a specific EC2 instance type you choose. Each hourly rate covers the hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 software license for one running EC2 instance of the type you pick. You still pay AWS separately for the underlying compute, storage, and network. The two charges appear together on your AWS bill.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running instance-hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the license charge applies only while the instance runs.
If I move my workload to a larger instance type, how does my charge change?
The software rate is tied to the specific EC2 instance type you run. Switching to a larger size changes your hourly rate to that type's rate. There is no separate upgrade step or commitment. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance type.
