You pay by the hour for a preconfigured image running SQL Server 2022 Enterprise on Windows Server 2025, with vendor support included. Pricing is set per EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you launch. Options span many families and sizes, from small burstable instances to memory-optimized, compute-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, and bare-metal machines. Larger instances carry more compute, memory, or storage, which raises the hourly rate. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and billing scales with the hours you run it. There are no upfront commitments in this usage model.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit include when I launch this SQL Server image?
Each hourly unit covers one running EC2 instance of the type you select. The image comes preconfigured with SQL Server 2022 Enterprise on Windows Server 2025 and vendor support. Your rate depends on the instance family and size you choose. You pay for each hour that instance runs.
Am I charged for the software when my instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges meter running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Underlying AWS storage costs for the volume may still apply while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Do I commit upfront, or is this strictly pay-as-you-go?
This is a usage model with no upfront commitment. You pay by the hour for whichever instance type you launch. If your workload grows, you can move to a larger instance and the higher hourly rate applies from that point forward. There is no fixed term.
