You pay by the hour for AlmaLinux 9 with vendor support, billed per running instance. Pricing has one hourly software rate for each supported Amazon EC2 instance type. You pick the instance type that fits your compute, memory, storage, or GPU needs. The rate scales with instance size and family. Smaller shared instances like t3.small carry lower hourly rates. Large memory, storage, or accelerated types like x2iedn.metal, u-24tb1.112xlarge, or p5.48xlarge carry higher rates. AWS charges the underlying compute separately. You only pay for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment.

What do I actually get when I pay the hourly rate for a given instance type?
You get the AlmaLinux 9 image running on the Amazon EC2 instance type you select, packaged with the latest updates and vendor support. The rate covers the software licence and support for that instance. AWS bills the underlying EC2 compute and storage separately.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software rate meters running instance-hours only. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the AlmaLinux 9 support charge applies only while the instance runs.
How does cost change if I move to a different instance type or a larger size?
Each instance type carries its own hourly rate. Switching types changes your rate to that type's published price. Larger sizes within a family generally carry higher hourly rates. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance; there is no upfront commitment tying you to one type.
