AlmaLinux is a free, open-source, community-driven Linux distribution designed to provide a stable and secure operating system for enterprise environments. It is a 1:1 binary-compatible fork of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), created as a replacement for CentOS after its shift to CentOS Stream.

Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software running on ARM64-based EC2 instances. There is no upfront commitment. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, so your rate depends on the compute size you choose. Smaller general-purpose instances like t4g.nano and a1.medium carry lower hourly rates. Larger and specialized instances scale up, including compute-optimized (c-series), memory-optimized (r-series and x-series), storage-optimized (im4gn, is4gen, i4g), high-performance (hpc7g), GPU-capable (g5g), and metal options. You select the instance that fits your workload, and hourly billing scales with that choice.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You get AlmaLinux OS Version 9 with a graphical desktop environment running on the ARM64-based EC2 instance you select. It includes an RDP remote desktop, the Fish shell with command auto-suggestion, a code editor, and a web browser. The rate covers the software; AWS bills the underlying compute separately.
The software charge meters running instance-hours. When you stop or power off an instance, software charges stop accruing. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the listing's hourly rate applies only while the instance runs.
Each dimension maps to one instance type with its own hourly rate. Switching instances changes your rate immediately for hours run on the new type. You are billed for hours on each type separately, so the change takes effect when you launch the new instance.

Login to instance using SSH via key based authentication. Use "ec2-user" as userid (refer https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/putty.html for details on how to connect using putty/ssh)

Once connected using ssh/putty, run below command to set the password for "ec2-user" user on the terminal

Once the password is set for ec2-user, from your local windows machine, goto start menu. On the start menu, search & select "remote desktop connection". In the "remote desktop connection" wizard, provide public IP of your instance & click connect.

In the displayed window, provide "ec2-user" as userid & password set in step 2 above.

Now you are connected to the desktop environment of the VM where you can access out of box AlmaLinux GUI environment.
