AlmaLinux is a free, open-source, community-driven Linux distribution designed to provide a stable and secure operating system for enterprise environments. It is a 1:1 binary-compatible fork of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), created as a replacement for CentOS after its shift to CentOS Stream.
AlmaLinux is supported by the AlmaLinux Foundation and offers long-term support, making it ideal for servers, cloud computing, and other enterprise use cases.
With this VM you will get AlmaLinux Version 9 GUI based Linux desktop environment packed with open source productivity tools & applications up & running in minutes.
This VM comes with the GUI environment available to you as compared to other available VM offers in the marketplace which do not have GUI by default.

Instead, the rate changes based on the instance type you select. Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and GPU or accelerated families, in sizes from nano and micro up to metal and 24xlarge. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or accelerators carry higher hourly rates. You choose the size that matches your workload, and billing follows your actual hours of use.

The rate covers the AlmaLinux OS Version 9 with a GUI desktop running on your chosen AWS EC2 instance. It includes an RDP-based remote desktop, a code editor, a web browser, and a shell with command auto-suggestion. You pick the instance size that fits your workload.
The software charge meters running hours only. When the instance is fully stopped, hourly software charges stop accruing. Underlying AWS storage fees for the disk may still apply while the instance sits stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
The software feature set stays the same across all instance types. Only the hourly rate changes with the instance you run. Moving to an instance with more CPU, memory, or accelerators raises the hourly rate. You are billed for the actual hours each instance runs.

Login to instance using SSH via key based authentication. Use "ec2-user" as userid (refer https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/putty.html for details on how to connect using putty/ssh)

Once connected using ssh/putty, run below command to set the password for "ec2-user" user on the terminal

Once the password is set for ec2-user, from your local windows machine, goto start menu. On the start menu, search & select "remote desktop connection". In the "remote desktop connection" wizard, provide public IP of your instance & click connect.

In the displayed window, provide "ec2-user" as userid & password set in step 2 above.

Now you are connected to the desktop environment of the VM where you can access out of box AlmaLinux GUI environment.

it is easy to set up and use with a graphical desktop interface. It saves time because many useful tools are already installed and ready to use.

performance can be slower compared to a lightweight command-line server. It may also have limited customization options depending on the preconfigured setup.

It solves the need for a ready-to-use Linux desktop on the cloud without complex setup. It benefits me by saving time, providing easy remote access, and allowing quick use of tools for development or daily tasks.

What do you like best about the product?
I like Debian GUI Linux by Techlatest.net because of its stability combined with a ready-to-use graphical interface. What do you like best about the product?
I consider that this version is more user-friendly than other distributions. It's not my favorite, but it is one of the ones I've had to use the most.
What do you dislike about the product?
Neutral. I don't have a negative opinion of this software. They are on the right track.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have had problems installing this distro on some low-resource computers. Specifically on a Chinese Firebat PC.
