Proxy Server using Squid Proxy Cache on Windows Server 2019
This AWS Squid proxy caching server has been optimised for speed and high performance running on Windows Server 2019
Squid offers a rich set of traffic optimization options, most of which are enabled by default.
Squid is a caching proxy for the Web supporting HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, and more. It reduces bandwidth and improves response times by caching and reusing frequently-requested web pages. Squid has extensive access controls and makes a great server accelerator.
Squid Proxy Features:
Set ACL for which networks have access to internet
Block/Allow access to certain websites
Block/Allow Content Based on MIME Types (e.g image, text, mpeg)
Set time in which users can access the internet at certain times in the day
Cache frequently accessed websites, cache files/media
Hide users internal IP Addresses
Load balance with other Squid proxies
Clustering
Traffic Interception with WCCP
Set authentication to get users to Authenticate (LDAP, Active Directory,RADIUS, POP3, DB, etc)
Allow/Block IM (Instant Messaging)
Block coin-mining scripts from using CPU/memory on users browsers. A new modern trend.
Adaptation protocol (C-ICAP / eCAP)
Caching Dynamic Content
Fully Transparent Interception with Squid-2, TPROXYv2 and WCCP
Configuring multiple interception ports using WCCPv2
WCCP2 and NAT on a private internal network
PHP Redirectors
SMP Carp Cluster
Torrent filtering
Webwasher integration
Highlights
Along with the actual caching, Squid offers a wide range of features such as distributing the load over intercommunicating hierarchies of proxy servers, defining strict access control lists for all clients accessing the proxy, allowing or denying access to specific Web pages with the help of other applications, and generating statistics about frequently-visited Web pages for the assessment of the users surfing habits. Squid is not just a generic proxy. It normally proxies only HTTP connections.
Improve the speed of your internet by caching frequently accessed websites. Also restrict access to certain websites within your network.
Traffic Interception with WCCP. Also hide your internal IP addresses from the outside world.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the software running on a Windows Server 2019 instance with Squid Proxy Cache preconfigured. Pricing has one usage-based structure that scales with the EC2 instance type you choose. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, from small general-purpose types up to large compute, memory, storage, and GPU-optimized options. As you select instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware, the hourly rate rises accordingly. You match the instance to your proxy traffic and caching needs, then pay only for the hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what runs on the instance?
Each hourly unit covers one running EC2 instance of the size you pick, preloaded with Windows Server 2019 and Squid Proxy Cache. Squid caches web pages, controls access, and proxies HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP traffic. You connect via the default listener port 3128. Larger instance types add more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware.
Am I charged when the proxy instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops hourly software charges. Underlying AWS storage or other resources tied to the stopped instance may still incur separate AWS fees, but the Squid Proxy software meters running hours only.
How do I pick which instance type to pay for?
You match the instance to your expected proxy traffic and caching load. Smaller general-purpose types suit light use. Memory, compute, storage, or GPU-optimized types suit heavier caching, more clients, or load balancing across proxies. Each type carries its own hourly rate, so cost rises with instance size.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
