This product has charges associated with it for CIS Level 1 hardening, maintenance and support of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

    Overview

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS hardened to the CIS Benchmark Level 1 with a documented exceptions list, for Graviton (arm64) instances. An x86_64 edition is listed separately. Each instance gets its own SSH host keys, machine identity and TLS key on first boot, and builds its own file-integrity (AIDE) baseline a few minutes later. Security updates install automatically. Every release ships with its CIS audit results. Ubuntu is open-source software; charges cover hardening, maintenance and support by IOanyT Innovations.

    Highlights

    • CIS Level 1 hardened Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with documented exceptions and audit evidence
    • Unique SSH host keys, machine identity and TLS key per instance; key-only SSH
    • Automatic security updates and a per-instance AIDE baseline, for Graviton (arm64) instances

     Info

    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for the Arm64/Graviton EC2 instance type you run. All 16 options deliver the same hardened Ubuntu 24.04 image; they differ only by instance size and family. The t4g options are general-purpose burstable instances. The m7g family is general-purpose, c7g is compute-optimized, and r7g is memory-optimized. Within each family, pricing scales up from large to 4xlarge as vCPU and memory grow. Pick the family that matches your workload, then the size that matches your capacity needs. The hourly software charge is billed alongside your standard EC2 compute cost.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

Each option runs the same hardened Ubuntu 24.04 Arm64/Graviton image on the matching EC2 instance size. You pay the hourly software charge for each hour the instance runs. The t4g sizes are burstable; m7g, c7g, and r7g differ by vCPU and memory per family.
The hourly software charge applies while the instance runs. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay standard AWS fees for attached storage on a stopped instance, but the software license meters running hours only.
Each instance type carries its own hourly software rate. Launching a larger size, such as moving from large to 4xlarge, means you pay that size's hourly rate for the hours it runs. There is no automatic upgrade; you choose the type at launch.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Usage instructions

    1. Launch the instance. Allow TCP 22 from your own network only (never 0.0.0.0/0).
    2. Connect: ssh -i your-key.pem ubuntu@<instance-ip>
    3. Use sudo for administration; the root account is locked.
    4. Security updates install automatically. Run sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade for everything else.
    5. Some unused filesystem modules (NFS/EFS, FUSE, Docker overlay) are disabled by CIS hardening. To re-enable them, delete /etc/modprobe.d/ioanyt-cis-unused-fs.conf and reboot. Guide: https://ioanyt.com/aws-marketplace/hardened-ubuntu/deploy
