You pay by the hour for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 running on your chosen EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, so pricing is not tiered by plan or feature. Instead, your rate depends on the instance family and size you select. Smaller instances like t3.nano cost less per hour, while multi-core and memory or GPU instances like m7a.metal-48xl or p5.48xlarge cost more. You run only what you need and stop paying when the instance stops. The software and vendor support are the same across all instance choices.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for billing?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you pick, billed per hour. The charge covers the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 software and vendor support on that instance. You pay the rate tied to that instance family and size for every hour it runs.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running hours only. When you stop the instance, the hourly software fee stops accruing. Underlying AWS storage costs for the volume may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from this listing's per-hour rate.
Does moving to a larger instance change my software rate?
Yes. Each instance type maps to its own hourly rate. Switching from a smaller instance like t3.medium to a multi-core instance like m7a.48xlarge changes your rate to that type's price. The software and support stay the same; only the per-hour rate follows the instance you run.
