You pay by the hour for this hardened Ubuntu 18 image running on Amazon EC2. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each rate maps to a specific EC2 instance type you choose, such as general purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, or high-memory families. The hourly software rate scales with the size and capability of the instance you select. Larger instances within a family carry higher hourly rates than their smaller counterparts. You launch only the instance types you need and pay for the hours each one runs, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get when I pay the hourly rate for this image?
You get a pre-hardened Ubuntu 18 machine image running on the EC2 instance type you pick. Each image is built for security and compliance, tested against standard security frameworks, and kept current with updates and patches. You also get vendor-backed support for patching and OS-specific questions.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from the per-hour software charge shown in the table.
Can I run several different instance types at once and how does that bill?
Yes. You launch only the instance types you need, and each running instance bills at its own hourly rate for the hours it runs. Charges accrue independently per instance and appear together on your invoice. There is no upfront commitment across instance types.
