You pay by the hour for the Debian 10 machine image, with no upfront commitment. Each dimension maps to a specific Amazon EC2 instance type, and the hourly rate reflects the compute capacity of that instance. General-purpose (m, t), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r, x, z, u), storage-optimized (d, i, h), and accelerated (g, p, inf, trn, dl, vt) families are all covered. Larger instance sizes carry higher hourly rates than smaller sizes in the same family. You choose the instance that fits your workload and pay only for the hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for a Debian 10 instance?
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select, billed per hour. The rate covers the Debian 10 machine image on that instance. Each instance you launch meters separately. The listing includes OS updates, firewalls, and network protocols on the image.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when an instance is stopped?
The software fee meters only running hours. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS fees, such as storage for attached volumes, while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
If I run several instance types at once, how does my bill combine?
Each running instance bills independently at its own hourly rate for its instance type. Your total is the sum of all running instances across their hours. Instance size drives each line item. Running many small instances or one large instance both add to the same invoice.
