Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each hourly rate covers one running EC2 instance of the type you pick. The rate combines the software licence with the machine you launch. You are billed for each hour that instance runs. Running two instances of the same type counts as two separate hourly charges.
The software charge meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. You may still owe separate AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software charge.
Each instance type has its own hourly rate. Moving to a larger type in the same family raises the hourly rate. Moving to a smaller type lowers it. There is no tier or commitment; you simply pay the rate tied to whichever type you run.

ssh to the instance public IP and login as 'debian' user using the key specified at launch time. Use 'sudo su -' in order to get a root prompt.
