Each dimension maps to one instance size across families like general purpose (m, t), compute (c), memory (r, x, u), storage (d, i), and accelerated computing (g, p, inf, trn, f). You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. Larger instances within a family carry higher hourly rates. Software charges apply on top of the AWS infrastructure cost for the chosen instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each unit is one Amazon EC2 instance of the listed type, running for one hour. The rate covers the hardened Debian 10 image with Patch Guard software. You pick one instance size, such as m5.large or c6i.xlarge, and pay per hour that instance runs.
The software fee meters running hours only. A stopped instance does not accrue hourly software charges. You may still owe underlying AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the Patch Guard software charge applies only while the instance runs.
Two charges apply together on the same bill. The software charge is set per instance type and hour. On top, AWS bills its own infrastructure rate for that instance. Both accrue by the hour and stop when the instance stops. Larger instance sizes raise both charges.

ssh to the instance public IP and login as 'debian' user using the key specified at launch time. Use 'sudo su -' in order to get a root prompt.
