Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for Debian 10 with Patch Guard, billed per EC2 instance type you run. The many dimensions are not tiers or add-ons. Each one maps to a specific AWS instance size and family, such as general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage, GPU, and high-memory machines. Your cost scales with the instance you choose. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates than smaller ones. You select the instance that fits your workload, and the software cost applies on top of AWS infrastructure charges.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You pay one hourly software rate per running EC2 instance. Each rate maps to a specific instance type, such as t3.large or m5.xlarge. Each instance you launch bills separately by the hour it runs. The rate reflects that instance's CPU, memory, and hardware profile.
The software fee meters running hours only. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still owe AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is separate from the software licence, which counts active running time.
Each instance bills independently at its own hourly rate. The charges add together on one invoice. Running two instances means two hourly rates accrue in parallel. Larger instance types carry higher hourly rates, so your total scales with both the count and the sizes you run.
