Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for a Debian AMI, with vendor support included. Pricing has one dimension: the AWS EC2 instance type you run. Each listed instance size carries its own hourly software rate. The rate scales with instance capacity, so larger instances cost more per hour than smaller ones. Instance families cover general purpose, compute, memory, storage, accelerated, and high-memory workloads. You choose the instance that fits your workload and pay only for the hours you use. No upfront commitment or fixed term applies to this usage-based model.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the chosen type, billed per hour. The rate covers the Debian AMI software and vendor support. The underlying AWS compute is billed separately by AWS. Each instance you launch meters its own hours independently.
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue the Debian software charge. You may still owe AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the software licence bills active hours.
You are billed the hourly rate tied to whichever instance type you launch. Moving to a larger instance applies that instance's higher hourly rate for the hours it runs. There is no automatic tier upgrade; you choose the type at launch and can change it.
