This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a secure, ready-to-use Zabbix 7.4 monitoring server. Monitor servers, networks and applications and get alerts when something goes wrong, with unique passwords for every instance.

    Overview

Zabbix is an open source monitoring platform for servers, virtual machines, network devices, applications and websites. It collects metrics, draws graphs and maps, and sends alerts when something crosses a threshold, so problems are found before users notice them. This image gives IT and network teams a working Zabbix server in minutes, with the database and web frontend already set up.

What is included: Zabbix 7.4.14 server, frontend and agent on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Apache with PHP, MySQL 8.0, phpMyAdmin for database administration and Webmin 2.660 for server administration. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own Zabbix admin, MySQL root and Webmin passwords, a new Zabbix database password and a new phpMyAdmin secret, MySQL listens only on the server itself, and SSH accepts key-based login only.

What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Zabbix is open source software licensed under AGPL-3.0. Zabbix is a trademark of Zabbix LLC. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.

    Highlights

    • Ready in minutes: launch the instance, open /zabbix in your browser and sign in. Zabbix server, frontend and agent, MySQL, phpMyAdmin and Webmin are already installed and configured.
    • Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own Zabbix, MySQL and Webmin passwords on first boot and a new Zabbix database password is generated, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
    • Know before your users do: monitor CPU, memory, disks, services, network devices and websites, with ready templates, graphs, maps and alerts by email.

    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage of the instance you select. The listing covers general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and accelerated families across many sizes, from micro and nano up to very large and bare-metal options. The software itself is open source and needs no license key. Your rate reflects the instance you run, letting you match cost to the monitoring workload you expect. You can switch instance types as needs change.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

The hourly rate covers the running software image on your chosen EC2 instance type. The monitoring stack is open source under AGPL-3.0 and needs no license key. You pay your cloud provider separately for the compute and storage the instance uses.
The hourly software charge applies while the instance runs. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay AWS for attached storage, such as the 20 GiB gp3 root volume, while the instance is stopped. Billing resumes when you start it again.
Yes. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, billed per hour. If you launch a bigger instance type, your hourly rate changes to that type's rate. You pick the family and size that fits your monitoring workload, and switching happens when you launch a new instance.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

Once the instance is running, open Zabbix at http://<instance-public-ip>/zabbix and sign in with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. phpMyAdmin is at http://<instance-public-ip>/phpmyadmin; sign in with root as the username and your instance ID as the password. Webmin is on port 8000, so open http://<instance-public-ip>:8000 and sign in with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. You can also connect over SSH with the username ubuntu and your Amazon key pair.

Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH), 80 (Zabbix and phpMyAdmin) and 8000 (Webmin). Zabbix agents on other machines report to this server on port 10051, so open 10051 only to those machines. For security, allow ports 22 and 8000 only from your own IP address.

Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password. Allow two to three minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in.

Change your passwords after the first sign-in: connect over SSH and run sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_zabbix.sh for Zabbix, pass_mysql.sh for MySQL root or pass_webmin.sh for Webmin. zabbix_status.sh in the same folder shows versions and health.

The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS.
