Overview
Grafana is an open source tool for dashboards and alerts, and Prometheus is an open source system for collecting metrics. Together they let you watch servers, applications and services: CPU, memory, disk, response times, error rates and any custom metric you send. This image gives DevOps and IT teams a working monitoring server in minutes, already wired together, so you can start building dashboards straight away.
What is included: Grafana 13.2.1, Prometheus and Node Exporter on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Prometheus is added to Grafana as a data source, and Node Exporter reports this server's own metrics so your first dashboard has data from the start. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own Grafana admin password and a new Grafana secret key, Node Exporter listens only on the server itself, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Grafana is open source software licensed under AGPL-3.0, and Prometheus and Node Exporter under Apache-2.0. Grafana is a trademark of Grafana Labs, and Prometheus is a trademark of The Linux Foundation. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.
Highlights
- Ready in minutes: launch the instance, open Grafana on port 3000 and sign in. Prometheus is already connected as a data source and Node Exporter is already sending this server's metrics.
- Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own Grafana admin passwords on first boot and a new Grafana secret key is generated, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
- Watch everything in one place: build dashboards and alerts for servers, applications and databases, and point Prometheus at more targets as you grow.

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
Latest stable release on AWS Marketplace.
Grafana 13.2.1 with Prometheus and Node Exporter on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
A unique Grafana admin password and secret key are set for every instance on first boot.
Includes helper scripts in /home/ubuntu/iscripts for changing passwords and checking status.
Additional details
Usage instructions
Once the instance is running, open Grafana at http://<instance-public-ip>:3000 and sign in with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. Prometheus is at http://<instance-public-ip>:9090. You can also connect over SSH with the username ubuntu and your Amazon key pair.
Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH), 3000 (Grafana) and 9090 (Prometheus). The Prometheus page has no password, so allow port 9090 and port 22 only from your own IP address.
Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password. Allow two to three minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in.
Change your Grafana password after the first sign-in: connect over SSH and run sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_grafana.sh. grafana_status.sh in the same folder shows versions and service status.
The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS.
