Every dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, and the hourly rate scales with the size and family of the instance you pick. Smaller shared instances like t3.micro cost less per hour than large memory, compute, storage, or GPU instances such as r8i.96xlarge or p5.48xlarge. Choose the instance type that fits your workload; the software runs identically across all of them with the same STIG security hardening applied.

You pay the hourly software rate for the EC2 instance type you launch. Billing counts each hour the instance runs. The rate covers the Ubuntu 24.04 image with STIG security hardening applied. Underlying AWS compute and storage charges are separate from this software fee.
The software fee meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volumes while the instance is stopped, but those are billed by AWS, not as part of this software.
