This is a repackaged software product wherein additional charges apply for DISA STIG security hardening.

Madarson IT Hardened Ubuntu 24.04 LTS - DISA STIG Compliant AMI

Deploy a pre-hardened Ubuntu 24.04 LTS instance on AWS EC2 with DISA STIG benchmarks already applied. This AMI is built for organizations that need compliance-ready infrastructure without the manual effort of hardening a base image from scratch.

Madarson IT delivers hardened and custom images across AWS, GCP, and Azure Marketplace, covering multiple operating systems and compliance frameworks. Our images are built to work right out of the box - security controls are active immediately upon launch.

    What This AMI Delivers

    • DISA STIG benchmarks pre-applied: Security configuration aligned with Defense Information Systems Agency Security Technical Implementation Guides for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
    • Reduced audit preparation time: Controls are implemented before deployment, helping teams accelerate Authority to Operate (ATO) readiness
    • Hardened out of the box: Access controls, system lockdowns, audit logging configurations, and robust security settings are active on first boot
    • Compliance validation ready: Run your OpenSCAP or SCAP-compliant scanner against the instance to verify STIG control implementation

    Key Security Controls Applied

    • Access controls and authentication hardening
    • System audit logging enabled and configured
    • Unnecessary services disabled
    • Network configuration hardened per STIG guidance
    • File system permissions and integrity settings applied
    • Software update mechanisms configured

    Deployment Scenario

A defense contractor maintaining Authority to Operate (ATO) for development and test environments can launch this AMI to provision STIG-compliant EC2 instances on demand. Instead of spending days manually applying STIG controls to a base Ubuntu image, teams deploy pre-hardened instances and validate compliance with a SCAP scan - reducing environment provisioning from days to minutes.

This image is also suitable for organizations in healthcare, financial services, and other regulated industries that align their security posture with DISA STIG or similar frameworks.

    Why Madarson IT

    • Multi-cloud hardened image portfolio: We publish hardened and custom images across AWS, GCP, and Azure Marketplace, covering multiple operating systems and compliance frameworks
    • Regularly updated: Images are refreshed to incorporate new STIG releases and security patches
    • Built for production: Images follow industry standards and are tested to work without additional configuration for core STIG compliance

    Getting Started

    1. Subscribe to this AMI on AWS Marketplace
    2. Launch an EC2 instance using the AMI
    3. Connect via SSH using your configured key pair
    4. Validate STIG compliance by running an OpenSCAP scan against the DISA STIG profile for Ubuntu 24.04
    5. Deploy your workloads on a hardened, compliance-ready foundation

    Requirements and Limitations

    • This is a repackaged software product with additional charges for DISA STIG security hardening.
    • Buyers should verify compatibility with their target EC2 instance types before deploying at scale.
    • Application-layer STIGs and any CAT I findings requiring manual action remain the buyer's responsibility.
    • DISA STIG compliance requires more than technical controls at the operating system layer. Customers remain responsible for organizational, procedural, and additional infrastructure controls.

    Highlights

    • DISA STIG Controls Pre-Applied on Launch: This AMI ships with DISA STIG benchmarks for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS already configured and active. Security controls including access hardening, audit logging, service minimization, and file system permissions are enforced from first boot. Teams can validate compliance immediately using OpenSCAP or any SCAP-compliant scanning tool, eliminating days of manual hardening work typically required to prepare a base image for Authority to Operate (ATO) assessments.
    • Multi-Cloud Hardened Image Portfolio from Madarson IT: Madarson IT publishes hardened and custom images across AWS, GCP, and Azure Marketplace, covering multiple operating systems and compliance frameworks including DISA STIG. Images are regularly updated to incorporate new benchmark releases and security patches, ensuring your deployed instances stay aligned with current compliance requirements.
    • Compliance-Ready for Federal and Regulated Environments: Built for defense contractors, federal agencies, healthcare organizations, and financial services teams that must demonstrate compliance with DISA STIG or equivalent security frameworks. Deploy pre-hardened EC2 instances on demand for development, testing, or production workloads. Reduce audit preparation time by starting with a validated security baseline rather than hardening after deployment.

    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for this hardened Ubuntu 24.04 image, billed per running instance. Pricing is not tiered by feature. Instead, each rate matches a specific AWS EC2 instance type you choose, from small general-purpose sizes to large compute, memory, storage, and GPU instances. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or accelerators carry higher hourly rates. You select the instance type that fits your workload and pay only for the hours you run it. The software cost is added on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges for that instance.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

The hourly rate covers the software license for the hardened Ubuntu 24.04 image on your chosen EC2 instance type. You pay this on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges for that instance. The image ships with security configurations aligned to DISA STIG compliance frameworks.
The software fee meters running instance-hours only. When you stop or power off an instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. AWS may still bill underlying storage for the stopped instance, but that is separate from this software license.
Yes. Each instance type carries its own hourly software rate, so you can run the image on a smaller or larger instance as your workload changes. Your software charge follows the instance type you run at any given time. You pay only for hours on that type.
