Automation has transformed market workflows and reduces weekend maintenance effort

    Reviewed on Aug 25, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Control-M is to schedule and automate workflows.

A specific workflow that I automated using Control-M was the weekend maintenance where we bring down certain applications and conduct certain verifications, then perform maintenance and OS patching work, bring up those applications, and automate the workflows. Control-M has been very successful for this purpose and has eliminated unnecessary human hours from the workflow, providing significant convenience and automation.

The main use case for Control-M in our organization's context is to schedule the bringing up and bringing down of the market because we work for a stock exchange. We have many applications running through the pre-open, open, during, and closing periods, as well as market close, end of day, and batching. All of these involve many applications that must run one after another along with dependencies and successors. Creating workflows in Control-M has greatly improved our workflow management.

    What is most valuable?

The best features Control-M offers are the convenience and the reporting aspect, along with the ability to monitor current workflows and see where things are at, where they are stalling, and where abnormalities are occurring.

For reporting and monitoring features, it is very important that we understand how long certain applications take to run and which applications are draining the memory and hard disks of our servers. Reporting helps us understand execution times, average execution times, points of improvement, and provides information for our higher management. Monitoring has been an essential part of our mission-critical applications, with a separate team utilizing the monitoring and alerting features of Control-M.

Control-M has positively impacted our organization very much because it gives all our external teams a single platform to use as a single pane of glass to view different workflows, different points of improvement, and monitor how certain processes are performing.

Automating the maintenance workflow changed things for our team and organization by reducing the potential risk of human errors and saving considerable time for team members who previously had to be available over weekends to work on these tasks. Overall, it has been a step towards advancement in our company to automate workflows.

    What needs improvement?

Control-M can definitely be improved in terms of the user interface. The user interface they have been using is the same thing they have been using for the last 10 years. Control-M Web UI has not done justice to the fat client because we are forced to switch from the fat client to the Web UI. The Web UI has drawbacks, including the jobs on the monitoring page taking several seconds, from 5 to 10 to even 15 seconds, for the status to update from executing to completed stage. This is something we have to refresh the monitoring domain to see. There are a couple of inconsistencies when switching from the fat client, though I think we might get used to it over time.

Control-M's learning platforms need significant improvement. The Control-M courses are really bad, and the exams are really bad. Nobody has really spent any time improving them or putting thought into them. It appears someone made them without much consideration. I would like those things to be eventually improved.

I chose a rating of 8 out of 10 because Control-M has many things to improve.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Control-M for close to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Control-M is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Control-M's scalability is very good.

How are customer service and support?

Customer support for Control-M is not too bad, but we wish that some of the bugs would be prioritized by the development teams so that we do not have to wait until the next year for certain issues to be resolved.

    How was the initial setup?

I am not involved in the pricing, setup cost, and licensing conversations as that is usually handled by my higher management.

    What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment with Control-M, and while I do not have specific numbers, it has led to fewer employees being hands-on with the applications because of Control-M's automation.

What other advice do I have?

We are yet to utilize the artificial intelligence capabilities of Control-M and would not know about the accuracy and reliability of its output.

Control-M is deployed in our organization on-premise. It is not very difficult to integrate other processors with Control-M, which is a reason why we continue using it.

Control-M is currently used extensively in my organization, but the decision to increase usage is entirely with management. Approximately 100 people use Control-M with different roles, though I am not very aware of those specific roles.

Our main business use cases supported by Control-M involve finance-related applications, though I am not very aware of the functional or application usage details.

My advice to others looking into using Control-M is to learn all Control-M related features before starting the integration because there are many things you can do. If you understand everything in your initial analysis, I think you will be able to utilize 100 percent of Control-M's features.

I rated this product 8 out of 10.

    Tony Finding

Daily data workflows have been automated reliably and now support flexible cloud integrations

    Reviewed on Aug 25, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

Control-M is our main orchestration software which drives the data loading process every day. Control-M performs exactly what it is supposed to do. There is no favorite part of it; it simply does its job. It runs a multitude of different job types and covers everything that we need to run efficiently.

We have moved to the SaaS solution recently, which has taken away some of the back-end admin burden from us. It is easy to understand and easy to monitor, and it operates at a 99% problem-free rate.

    What is most valuable?

There is nothing that we are missing right now regarding Control-M. The product has more job types and plugins than we actually need. There are hundreds of them, but we use a dozen.

Integrating Control-M with technologies for our DataOps and DevOps processes as things change is covered. They have provided us comprehensive coverage. If we have a product which we need to integrate into the process, we can speak to the integrations team and they will endeavor to add that onto their map. Control-M covers everything that we have. They have hundreds of integrations and we only use approximately 15 of them. If we need to integrate something else, then we would speak to them directly and ask them to put it on the roadmap.

    What needs improvement?

The speed and quality of support depend on who you get with Control-M. There are some people who are familiar with the product and have helped me before, and some of them are very good. Some of them I have not heard of before, so perhaps they are newer and not as experienced. The speed is a bit slow, but I also think that we get a different time zone of support engineers than others, so they are not in the same time zone. This does not help matters, and I have spoken to BMC about this. The main level one engineers and top-of-the-range engineers are based in Israel or South America. The speed of resolving issues or getting back to you is inconsistent, and the communication is not brilliant. This is one of the things we could identify as what we do not like about the product. The fact that their support engineers are placed all around the world does not offer the best speed of contact when you have a really serious issue. To be fair, we do not have many serious issues.

I experience that the lagging in our Singapore office is not very good for us because their data center is in Ireland, whereas where we are in Oslo it is absolutely fine. They do not have a data center where everything is synced in Asia. One of our offices is fine, but another office is not as good. This depends on where you are located. The Singapore office does a lot of work with this product every morning before we get into the office, and they have quite bad latency issues. This is an area where an improvement should be made.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Control-M does require maintenance on our end. Each server that runs the product, which runs the jobs, has an agent that needs to be patched and updated on a quarterly basis.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Regarding scalability, Control-M being a SaaS solution on AWS is fine. We do not have much need for thousands of servers to scale it to a huge size. We have a small operation, so it is absolutely fine for our scalability needs. You can scale it to what you need as it is all cloud-based. We do not have any need for extreme scaling.

How are customer service and support?

I contact the technical support all the time. I would give the support of Control-M a seven out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have not used any alternatives myself. I came into the company with Control-M in-house and have been using it ever since. We have not had any need to try anything else. Control-M is the only piece of orchestration software I have actually used.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial deployment of Control-M is a bit different for me since I transitioned from one service to another. I am not sure if things have changed because Control-M has two products: an on-premises solution and a SaaS solution. We had on-premises before I got to the company, and then I spent some time migrating to their SaaS solution. That was difficult because I was an early adopter, but apparently since then, things are a lot easier. It is not like a double-click an EXE file and off it goes. It is quite a complicated process. We have one hundred different vendor connections and various agents running on various servers in different AWS accounts. The product is complicated regarding what it is doing for us, but ultimately, it is a straightforward setup to get going. The configuring thereafter is probably the difficult bit.

    What about the implementation team?

BMC helped me with the migration. They had a migratory tool, but it was not the smoothest process to get through. We were constantly working together with their developers in order to get that right. That was in the early days and before I think I was one of the first client customers to migrate back in the day, which was over a couple of years ago. It was quite difficult at the time, but they were there helping out all the time. They had to have a happy customer and be able to say that we have a client in the Nordics where this software is extremely important, and they have migrated them to the SaaS solution. They were there from day one.

    What was our ROI?

Control-M is very fair for us, particularly for our needs. We have a whole bunch of other products which are a lot more expensive and do less. The prices have not gone up for us for a long time even as it has become more complicated. I think it is a very fair price. There are different tiers you are paying for based on the number of jobs you use or the number of executions that you have. It is not a one-price-fits-all model. Everyone is paying what they use, which I think is very fair.

What other advice do I have?

My relationship with BMC is transformative in a way. I was invited to their customer advisory board this year, where you go and tell them what they are doing wrong and how they can improve. They are always looking for clients to come in and assist them and help them improve. I think they have to do this in this day and age. Everything is moving so fast that if they do not work with their clients, their clients will leave. For everything regarding Control-M, I would give them a good eight out of ten. I would rate this review eight out of ten overall.

Reliable Hybrid Workload Automation with Strong Integrations and Jobs-as-Code

    Reviewed on Aug 25, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
BMC Control-M is a reliable, enterprise-grade workload automation platform that stands out for unifying hybrid IT environments. It effectively connects legacy mainframes, on-premises servers, cloud-native infrastructure, and modern AI pipelines within a single operational interface.

    UI & User Experience
The web interface is clean and intuitive, with drag-and-drop workflow visualizers, real-time dependency tracking, and quick access to logs when troubleshooting. For engineering teams, the "Jobs-as-Code" Automation API makes it possible to define workflows in JSON and embed them directly into CI/CD pipelines, which helps keep automation aligned with development practices.

    Integrations & Performance
Integrations are a major strength. Control-M offers certified connectors for AWS, Azure, GCP, SAP S/4HANA, Databricks, and ServiceNow, along with an Application Integrator for working with proprietary APIs. From a performance perspective, it can handle tens of millions of daily job executions and supports enterprise resilience through built-in high availability, automatic failover, and event-driven triggers.

    AI & Intelligence
The platform includes "Jett," a conversational AI advisor that helps build and troubleshoot workflows using natural language. It also supports orchestration of multi-agent AI frameworks (such as CrewAI and LangGraph), allowing newer AI-driven tasks to be governed alongside traditional batch processes.

    Pricing, ROI, & Onboarding
Pricing is clearly aimed at the enterprise market, which can make it cost-prohibitive for smaller operations. That said, larger organizations can see strong ROI by avoiding SLA breaches, reducing manual intervention, and consolidating legacy schedulers. BMC support is complemented by comprehensive documentation and deep vendor expertise, although onboarding new administrators comes with an initial learning curve due to the platform’s configuration depth.
What do you dislike about the product?
High Licensing Costs: The pricing is clearly geared toward large enterprise budgets. Task- and host-based licensing models can ramp up quickly, which can make it cost-prohibitive for smaller teams or non-enterprise workloads.

Steep Learning Curve: Because of its broad feature set, onboarding junior engineers or cloud-native teams takes significant time and often requires formal training to fully understand configuration policies, global variables, and security roles.

Fragmented User Experience: Although the modern web interface and "Jobs-as-Code" API are slick, some deeper administrative and system management work still requires jumping into legacy desktop tools or older sub-menus.

Heavy Administrative Overhead: Deploying, maintaining, and upgrading Control-M agents across thousands of multi-cloud and on-premises nodes demands dedicated operational bandwidth and ongoing attention.

Complex Upgrades & Documentation: Working through decades of legacy documentation to resolve modern API or cloud integration edge cases can be frustrating, and major platform upgrades frequently require extensive testing cycles.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Control-M excels at orchestrating complex, enterprise-wide workflows across mainframes, multi-cloud platforms, and legacy servers from a single control plane. Its modern web console provides clear, drag-and-drop dependency tracking, and the "Jobs-as-Code" Automation API lets developers integrate job definitions directly into CI/CD pipelines. It also scales comfortably to tens of millions of daily job executions, with high availability and support for event-driven triggers. Newer additions such as the "Jett" conversational AI advisor and multi-agent AI orchestration make day-to-day data pipeline management feel much more intuitive.

Automation has transformed banking batch operations and supports reliable daily payment processing

    Reviewed on Aug 25, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Control-M involves job scheduling and managing batch scripts.

As we work under a bank, I use Control-M for payment processing, loan processing, and credit card processing, where all banking processing is done through batch scheduling, and those schedules run in Control-M.

The main business use cases or services supported by Control-M include payroll, supply chain, and financing.

    What is most valuable?

The best features Control-M offers include being easy to learn and easily managed, especially as we are running around 500,000 jobs per day, which is easily managed by fewer people with fully automated controls through automatic alerting on job events.

Control-M is a powerful tool where we can automate everything end-to-end by running all scripts such as JavaScript, .NET scripts, or Python on shell scripts, and even the mainframe jobs are scheduled through Control-M for day-to-day banking processes and functionalities.

The current new feature that stands out for me is using the Control-M dashboard instead of depending on third-party monitoring tools such as Splunk, which makes it easy to see job status, job counts, and view job flows all in the new dashboard.

Control-M has positively impacted my organization as it has been in use for the past 20 years, providing substantial help for our day-to-day banking operations.

    What needs improvement?

At present, I do not find anything that can be improved in Control-M, as BMC Software is doing a good job in enhancing new features and integrating AI, machine learning, and proactive alerting.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for 19 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Control-M is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Control-M's scalability is excellent.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for Control-M is excellent.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different solution.

    How was the initial setup?

Based on change management, my deployment of Control-M took around 15 days to implement the change, while the installation and upgrade was completed in one day.

    What about the implementation team?

Five people are managing all the administration tasks for Control-M.

    What was our ROI?

Since using Control-M, I have noticed a return on investment through error reduction, as manual efforts have been reduced due to job automation and other tasks, which improves the stability and robust performance of our applications, enabling quick payment processing or file transfer functionalities within a limited time interval while providing customers a robust application.

I am not certain about the return on investment metrics such as fewer employees needed, money saved, or time saved, as that is handled by the leadership team.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not aware of the pricing, setup cost, and licensing as that is handled by my leadership team.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not evaluate other options before choosing Control-M.

What other advice do I have?

Control-M is the best tool in the world, and I would rate it a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.

Control-M is essential for day-to-day operations, as we are highly dependent on batch processing for all our banking operations.

Control-M provides 100% accuracy in batch job scheduling and includes built-in features for high availability, eliminating dependence on OS-level HA, ensuring stability and 100% availability for users for batch processing.

Regarding Control-M's AI capabilities, governance and security are managed in-house, so the security lies within the organization and not with external vendors or sources.

I would tell someone considering Control-M that it is the best tool in the world, where users can easily learn and implement it in their organization with its end-to-end features.

My overall rating for this review is 10.

Automated compliance reporting has strengthened daily data center and server governance

    Reviewed on Aug 24, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Control-M is data management and control. I use Control-M in data center management, server management, and all compliance-related functions. My use case for Control-M involves day-to-day data center management specifically, focusing on compliance, handling daily operations, server monitoring, hardware monitoring, and the compliance measures we are following.

    What is most valuable?

Control-M offers excellent end-to-end integration capabilities. The end-to-end integration connects multiple environments seamlessly, including cloud environments like AWS and GCP, which helps us significantly.

Control-M has intelligent data pipelines, manages file transfers, and MFTs, which are the best features we are using.

Control-M has positively impacted my organization with cost savings. We are mostly following compliance measures as per the RBI guidelines, making most of the compliance processes quicker by accessing them through Control-M.

Control-M helps me meet RBI compliance by generating automated reports, adding security features, and addressing fines we might incur due to compliance shortfalls.

    What needs improvement?

I would like to point out that the bank needs to explore how we can better utilize Control-M according to our specific requirements.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Control-M for more than a year.

What other advice do I have?

Control-M is correctly aligned with our banking environment, so everything is good and set.

Regarding Control-M's AI capabilities, I believe we do not currently have any AI inputs, but as far as security is concerned, it may be a good combination if we integrate that in our data center.
