    When your instance is created, log in as ec2-user to the the EC2 instance. You will be prompted to enter the required parameters to complete the installation. Parameters such as username and password.     After the installation process is finished, Control-M runs using the local PostgreSQL server. To start using Control-M, once your AMI or stack is running, wait a few minutes for Control-M to initiate and then navigate to: https://<DNS>:8446.

    What do you like best about the product?
    What I like most about Control-M is how it brings everything together in one place. It makes it straightforward to monitor workflows, see and understand job dependencies, and quickly spot issues when something goes wrong. On top of that, the automation cuts down on a lot of manual effort and helps keep day to day operations running more smoothly. It was reliable and stable, especially when handling large numbers of jobs and complex workflows.
    What do you dislike about the product?
    What I dislike about Control-M is that it can feel a bit complex at first, particularly when you’re setting up and managing more complicated workflows. Some configurations take quite a few steps to complete, and troubleshooting can be time-consuming at times. The user interface could also be more modern and intuitive, which would make day-to-day navigation easier. Overall, it’s a powerful tool, but new users should expect a learning curve.
    What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
    Control-M helps address the challenges of managing and monitoring complex workflows and scheduled jobs across different systems.     What I like best about Control-M is its exceptional reliability and robust handling of complex enterprise job workflows and batch processing dependencies. As a backend engineer working with distributed microservices, managing scheduled tasks, file transfers, and downstream triggers seamlessly is critical. The platform's intuitive interface, powerful automation API, and comprehensive monitoring dashboard make it effortless to track execution statuses, troubleshoot failures, and ensure smooth, automated data pipelines across systems without manual intervention.
    What do you dislike about the product?
    The initial setup and configuration process can be quite steep and complex, requiring a significant learning curve for new team members to fully master the platform's workflow definitions and parameters. Additionally, the resource consumption and licensing costs are relatively high, making it a heavy tool for smaller-scale deployments or lighter environments.     What do you like best about the product?
    Control-M has been really reliable for our batch processing. I like having everything in one place across mainframe, cloud, Hadoop, and ERP systems. The visual workflows make troubleshooting much easier, and the flexible scheduling and alerting save us a lot of manual effort. It’s not flashy, but it’s dependable and works well at scale.
    What do you dislike about the product?
    The biggest downside for me is the cost, especially as you scale and add more agents or features. It also has a bit of a learning curve, and the UI can feel dated in some areas. Upgrades and patching sometimes take more planning than expected, and custom reporting could definitely be more flexible.
    What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
    Control-M has helped us simplify job scheduling across different systems by giving us one place to manage and monitor everything. It’s reduced manual work, improved job reliability, and helped us catch issues before they turn into bigger problems. Overall, we spend less time babysitting jobs and have more confidence that our processes will run as expected.

    What do you like best about the product?
    It's a Mainframe jobs' Scheduling and monitor tool, but it works right within the mainframe through the regular old green screens, so I don't have to switch between systems. It's easy for me to use and fits naturally into our secure setup.
    It connects well with other systems too, not just mainframe jobs, but distributed systems and file transfers as well which helps in my quick job's flow and its dependencies. So I get one place to track everything.
    It performs well even when hundreds of jobs run during peak overnight batch cycles which process high Business logics. I can quickly see what ran, what triggered it, and what's next(dependencies), which makes troubleshooting fast and helps with daily Processing
    Support has been reliable, with regular updates from BMC. I've also noticed newer versions adding AI features like predictive alerts, which is a good step forward. But we are exploring these features and trying to integrate with our systems.
    And what impresses me most is that mainframe technology is almost 60 years old, and it's still running strong today - with Control-M playing a big part in keeping it going smoothly.
    What do you dislike about the product?
    Licensing and pricing are a real pain point. It isn’t cheap, and the cost adds up as we scale to more jobs, so only a few people end up having access to this tool. Also, the GUI can feel a bit dated compared to newer tools like TWS which I have been using it as well for other Projects.
    What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
    Before these tools like Control - M , overnight jobs needs on the mainframe had to be scheduled manually

    What is our primary use case?

    Control-M is used for MFT service MFT features in daily work because files are transferred from one server to the target, and it is used primarily for integration between two systems. It is also used for scheduling and managing SAP jobs.

    One workflow managed with Control-M currently involves encrypting files and transferring them to the bank, where the source system is encrypted and the encrypted file is transferred, which is easier to analyze and prevents breaches of flat files.

    Control-M is used for MFT-based managed file transfers across different businesses globally, and the features provided by MFT in Control-M are believed to be the best for transferring files between on-premise and cloud systems.

    Approximately 20 to 30 people use Control-M in the organization, performing various roles such as job configuration, administration, and usage for MFT and SAP jobs.

    Control-M usage is being increased and businesses globally are being engaged to expand its implementation.

    What is most valuable?

    The favorite feature of Control-M is MFT manage file transfer, which is easy to integrate with other systems. It is used daily, and the API is utilized for admin activities and triggering Control-M jobs.

    The API in Control-M helps automate tasks, such as creating jobs automatically using code in Visual Studio, enabling workload policies, job creation, and sharing the API swagger with the business to trigger Control-M jobs.

    Control-M is a good tool with the best features for SAP scheduling.

    Control-M has positively impacted Saint-Gobain by reducing manual work in file transfers, allowing automation of tasks, improvement of SLA, and enhancement of daily work and workload.

    Control-M has improved organizational functionality by providing one platform to monitor jobs easily and access detailed logs to track SAP and MFT jobs with end-to-end visibility of job dependencies.

    What needs improvement?

    One area for improvement in Control-M is the ability to encrypt and decrypt files without needing to install an agent on the other side, and better customization options for SharePoint access in line with Saint-Gobain policy would be appreciated.

    DevOps integration into Control-M needs to be explored more, as it is currently not being used in the organization but the potential benefits are evident.

    Previously, scripting was used for file transfers, which did not allow proper monitoring, leading to the switch to Control-M for both file transfers and SAP.

    Other options were not evaluated before choosing Control-M because its features and functionalities were recognized in advance.

    Before Control-M, scripts had to be created manually for file transfers, which took a significant amount of time. With Control-M, jobs are simply set up through drag and drop, which has reduced effort significantly.
