Very good threat protection, spam filtering, and cloud backups
What is our primary use case?
Threat protection, spam filtering, and cloud backup solutions are essential for me.
What is most valuable?
The most helpful aspect for me is the out-of-the-box configuration, which is fairly good. It allows me to build my own custom rules and assists with DMARC, focusing on email security and domain reputation.Â
Additionally, it has stopped people from frequently asking me about blocked emails, allowing them to release emails from quarantine themselves. This feature saves me time by preventing external threats effectively.
What needs improvement?
Considering it integrates with Azure , I would like to be able to effectively set up policies where people are by default included in certain settings. For instance, for email quarantine, I can't set up a global setting. Users must go through an induction session where I guide them in configuring quarantine alerts rather than having default settings based on group membership. This seems like an oversight since they already use Active Directory details. They should assign policies based on group membership, which configures these settings by default.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used the solution for about five years now.
How are customer service and support?
I haven't had to use customer service much, however, when I have, it has been pretty good. They are responsive, meet their SLAs, and provide answers quickly. I had a problem with our cloud backup where it wasn't restoring a team properly. They went through the process and recommended a change in their platform to address the issue. They also gave me a workaround that worked perfectly, demonstrating their efficiency all the way up to the third line.

How was the initial setup?
It took me a day to set it up. I don't often set up new mail spam filters and relays. Nonetheless, it was fairly painless. I've since set up another domain, which was even easier, indicating there is maturation since the original setup.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Five years ago, I considered this, and Barracuda offered an educational price point with significant discounts for education. It provides good value. They also offer a range of training options, including setting up phishing scams for educational purposes.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate the solution nine out of ten. Nothing can be a ten since nothing's perfect.Â

Improve reporting and integration while enjoying simple management
What is our primary use case?
Barracuda Email Protection is good for customers who don't have resources to manage email security. It is automated and easy to use. You just need to configure it, turn it on, and it works automatically. It's suitable for customers with up to a thousand users and does not require extensive customization.
What is most valuable?
The beauty of Barracuda Email Protection is that it is easy to manage and simple to deploy. While there is a lack of flexibility in terms of creating policies, this feature is beneficial for small customers who would prefer not to make multiple changes.Â
It is also known for providing excellent support, scoring ten out of ten in that aspect. However, Barracuda faces challenges with weak reporting and integration issues, particularly with their security awareness training platform.
What needs improvement?
Barracuda Email Protection needs better reporting and more robust integration with security awareness training platforms and third-party solutions. The fraud detection capability is not well-developed, with many false positives being reported, and there's no way to tune or modify the system.Â
Additionally, the solution lacks the ability to create custom rules or policies for VIP users, which is a significant drawback.

For support, Barracuda is very good, rating it ten out of ten. It is considered one of the best OEMs in the industry for support.

Barracuda is good for customers who lack the resources to manage email security. It works independently without needing much management.Â
However, if a customer requires extensive policy customization, Barracuda may not satisfy their needs.
Mimecast and ProPoint are other vendors, with Mimecast offering certain technologies that Barracuda does not.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Their list price is too high, but in India, the selling price is affordable at around $10 per user per year. Despite a list price possibly around $40 per user, their market price allows customers to easily buy the solution.
What other advice do I have?
Whether I would recommend Barracuda Email Protection depends on the customer’s use case and budget. If there is no need for advanced DLP or custom rules and policies based on user groups, Barracuda could be a good solution. Its simplicity and ease of management are attractive, however, it may not be ideal for large teams seeking extensive customization.

We use the solution to protect against phishing, impersonation, or spam emails.
What is most valuable?
The solution's most valuable feature is impersonation detection. This feature helps users determine whether an email is legitimate because the tool scans it before it reaches the user. The solution helps identify a person impersonating another person, a decision-maker, or a CEO.
Barracuda Email Protection has one technology called Sentinel that helps stop various email threats, such as spam, impersonation, phishing attacks, and spoofing attacks.
What needs improvement?
The technology works on a supervised engine, but it would be better if it ran on an unsupervised engine.

I have been using Barracuda Email Protection for more than two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Our customers are happy with the solution's stability, and we haven't received any complaints from them.

The solution's scalability depends upon your licenses, which range from 0 to 50 to 0 to 10,000. More than 50 of my customers are using the solution. Barracuda Email Protection is suitable for small, medium, and enterprise businesses.

What is our primary use case?
We use the solution to filter inbound emails for spam emails.
What is most valuable?
We check the reports sometimes to see that frequent attacks and malicious emails are being blocked by the solution.
What needs improvement?
Two to three months back, we got fraudulent emails in which someone in the organization was being blamed.

According to our requirement, we gradually increase the number of users from 40 to 50 users per year. It is easy to increase the number of users for the solution.

We were satisfied with the technical support because we know the technical things. However, our head still had questions, so he was not satisfied with the support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've previously used Office 365, and we got a lot of spam emails with that tool. Since Office 365 used basic security, it was not as secure as Barracuda Email Protection.

The solution’s initial setup was easy.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We didn't have to pay a lot for the solution because we got it from a good vendor with a good user volume. We would have got the product at a high price from some other vendor. We also checked with other vendors, and we got the solution at the cheapest price in our region. Currently, we are paying 8.75 per month per user.
What other advice do I have?
The solution is managed by our third-party vendor. Two to three months back, we got fraudulent emails in which someone in the organization was being blamed. We complained about it to our ISP or third-party provider managing the solution. They might have taken some action, and currently, we are not getting those types of emails.
I would recommend the solution to other users.

What is our primary use case?
The solution is useful for archiving. We archive emails and search our mailboxes.
What is most valuable?
The archiving and search features are very good. It is easy to integrate Barracuda with tools like Exchange.
What needs improvement?
The solution must provide security gateway features. It must enable users to archive emails for a specific period. The tool must allow organizations to extend the storage capacity by at least 10%. It must enable the extension of storage to an external drive. We faced problems when the storage became full. We use an on-premise solution, and it reached maximum capacity.
The product must enable bulk user management. It would be helpful if we wanted to get PST files for bulk users. Currently, when we need to get PST files for a group of people, the administrators have to do it individually. It would be good if we could upload it in an Excel sheet. It will be great if we can search for inactive users.

I have been using the solution for six to seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the tool’s stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I rate the tool’s scalability a nine out of ten for the archiving features. It is suitable for medium-sized businesses. My organization has more than 200 employees. My previous organization had 300 to 400 users.

The support team fixes our problems. I have had a positive experience with support.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is similar to that of Microsoft 365. There’s only a 4% to 5% difference between the prices of Barracuda and Microsoft 365.

Microsoft 365 provides a lot of features. If Barracuda and Microsoft 365 cost the same, we would choose Microsoft 365.
