Interconnect

AWS Interconnect

Connect your remote locations and other cloud services providers easily to AWS

What is Interconnect

AWS Interconnect is a managed connectivity service that simplifies connectivity into AWS. Interconnect enables customers to establish private, high-speed network connections with dedicated bandwidth to and from AWS across hybrid and multicloud environments. Customers can configure resilient, end-to-end connectivity with ease in a few clicks through the AWS Console by selecting their location, partner, or cloud provider, preferred Region, and bandwidth requirements, eliminating the friction and the complexity of manual network configurations.

Benefits

Interconnect delivers a fully managed, private connectivity experience using prebuilt capacity pools that eliminate the need for setting up physical connections or complex virtual routing. Provision connectivity with a few simple steps through the AWS Console or Command Line Interface (CLI), then adjust bandwidth speeds as workloads fluctuate without reprovisioning connections or opening support cases. This streamlined approach is designed to improve security posture and increase reliability while reducing operational overhead, eliminating weeks or months of network setup.

Interconnect utilizes MACsec encryption to establish dedicated bandwidth and keep reliable, private physical connections between AWS routers and other providers. This is designed to ensure data confidentiality and integrity.

Interconnect introduces open APIs and customer interfaces that cloud providers like Google Cloud and last-mile providers like Lumen are adopting, creating an industry-wide approach to connectivity. With providers owning all aspects of physical infrastructure, capacity scaling, and support, these open API specifications aim to simplify global connectivity for everyone while giving customers consistent experiences across providers.

How it works

AWS Interconnect delivers private connectivity with dedicated network capacity across hybrid and multicloud environments through a fully managed experience. Without manually setting up complex networks including physical connections and routing protocols, customers specify their target location or cloud provider, AWS Regions where workloads are located, and required bandwidth through the AWS Console or CLI. AWS and the Interconnect partner provides the physical infrastructure connections, capacity scaling, and support through pre-provisioned capacity at global points of presence, allowing customers to focus on innovation.

Use cases

Establish high-speed, private multicloud connections
AWS Interconnect - multicloud is a new capability that simplifies connectivity between AWS and other major cloud service providers, starting with Google Cloud. The first purpose-built product of its kind, Interconnect - multicloud is a managed connection that enables customers to establish private, resilient, high-speed network connections with dedicated bandwidth between their Amazon VPCs and other cloud environments.

Easily connect remote locations
AWS Interconnect - last mile simplifies on-premises last-mile connectivity to AWS. Customers can use their current network provider such as Lumen to instantly create high-speed private connections to the AWS network. It makes it easier for customers to onboard to AWS from their on-premises locations and removes the operational burden by automating network configuration.
