During the 10th anniversary of re:Invent, I was thrilled to share announcements and achievements from AWS Partners and programs for the public sector around the world. Since its launch, AWS’s Public Sector Partner Program participation has increased by an average of 54% year over year, with partners providing solutions in mission areas across healthcare, space, energy, transportation, government, education, and nonprofit. In both the Global Partners Summit keynote at re:Invent 2021, as well as in my public sector leadership session, I highlighted the new and upcoming AWS Partner solutions and accomplishments.

The new four-part documentary series Climate Next from Amazon explores how governments and organizations around the world use cloud technology from Amazon Web Services (AWS) to drive innovation in response to our changing planet, create scalable solutions to address climate change, and empower communities to protect and preserve our planet. One episode of the series showcases how the City of Santa Fe, New Mexico uses cloud technology to create a more efficient waste and recycling management operation to divert waste from landfills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

As organizations mature in their cybersecurity capabilities, they are looking to try and leverage automation to reduce the operational burden of alerting, detecting, and responding to threats. This blog post walks through how to combine findings from disparate security systems into a single operational view to help analysts identify, respond, and remediate existing threats while maintaining a dynamic response platform that scales with their environment.

This year, re:Invent from Amazon Web Services (AWS) is back in-person, in Las Vegas, Nevada, from Monday, November 29 through Friday, December 3. There will be two public sector leadership sessions during re:Invent for attendees to get inspired and discover the latest advancements and new initiatives from and for the public sector, featuring AWS public sector leadership and public sector customers with groundbreaking stories about how the cloud is driving innovation.

Oregon and Washington are home to the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR)—a union of the Cayuse, Walla Walla, and Umatilla tribes. Their language, Sahaptian is classified as severely endangered by UNESCO. CTUIR was searching for a way to preserve legacy knowledge in a way that can be passed down to future generations and strengthen its community. To do this, CTUIR worked with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and AWS Partner Dan Ryan to build an online dictionary of the Sahaptian language, powered by the cloud.

Tessitura Network, a member-owned nonprofit company, provides customer relationship management (CRM) technologies and services to performing arts, cultural, and entertainment organizations around the world. Tessitura integrates what used to be disparate components of running an arts and culture organization, and supports organizations to gain a full picture of their customers and patrons, to segment and analyze data for insights, and to build personalized engagements with donors and communities they serve—all using the cloud and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Since its launch in June of 2019, the Authority to Operate on AWS (ATO on AWS) program has supported more than 300 US-based customers to meet their regulatory, security, and compliance requirements on AWS. To extend that support globally, Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched the Global Security and Compliance Acceleration (GSCA) initiative. The GSCA is now available to support customers in the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU).

Earlier this year, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) ran the Australian Census, the agency’s most significant workload, on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Census is the most comprehensive snapshot of the country, and includes around 10 million households and over 25 million people. With the COVID-19 pandemic causing lockdowns across the country, ABS needed a digital option for the Census that was accessible and reliable for millions of people. They turned to the cloud.

During the opening keynote of the AWS Summit Washington, DC, Max Peterson, vice president of worldwide public sector at Amazon Web Services (AWS), welcomed customers, partners, sponsors, and guests to the two-day event. Peterson highlighted the success of AWS customers from the past 18 months, and announced exciting new initiatives from AWS.
