Useful to track projects
What do you like best about the product?
I like how I can nest and hide smaller sub tasks under tasks and I can look at projects at different levels and elevations.
What do you dislike about the product?
At times it can be difficult to manage certain fields that I've included- not all my rows need all of those fields.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can keep track of tasks and others can view them as well.
Good for collaboration and collecting data
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to collaborate with multiple teams in the organization is precious. Once you learn the basics of using Smartsheet, it becomes easier to manage workflows - this is best used for simple and not overly complex types of projects. The automation feature is a fantastic addition that allows you to set reminders, flag overdue tasks and provide notifications tailored to team members so they see all the information they need.
What do you dislike about the product?
Many features are not intuitive once you've gotten through the basics. There are a lot of formatting limitations, and you would expect it to work similarly to Excel. Still, there are many cases where that experience does not carry over, so Smartsheet has become less preferred for Finance needs and more as a way to track Construction activities internally instead of having a tool that satisfies the requirements of multiple departments and can be easily shared with external audiences. Functionality is also lost if you try to manage numerous sheets within a project - which takes away from the overall user experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps us collaborate cross-functionally across departments n the organization. We manage projects and detailed construction logs in Smartsheet, therefore, being able to tag and assign responsibilities and having everyone on the same sheet simultaneously saves us time and energy and allows us to maintain internal checks and balances efficiently.

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet is very similar to Microsoft Excel which makes it easy to use. If you are proficient in Microsoft Excel learning how to use the sheets on Smartsheet is an easy transition.
What do you dislike about the product?
The visuals are not intuitive, difficult to sort, and are too rigid to be worthwhile. Compared to a pivot table in Excel the visualizations available in Smartsheet compare very poorly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet's sheet functionality hits a niche spot that Microsoft Excel does not with dates and timeline tracking that makes it superior to Microsoft Excel sheets hosted on Microsoft Teams, or Sharepoint.
Not sure how to get most out of it if you are not an IT person

That you can use tables with comments and documents attached.

We do not know how we can fully use it in our working process

What do you dislike about the product?
Shortage of tools/formulas in comparison with MS Office programs

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Project management is more effective. Smartsheet is online and available for all participants everywhere. One of the good features is that we can share a sheet with different people and give them different roles. For example, all of my colleagues are viewers of my project management sheet.
Good, but missing some rudimentary features
What do you like best about the product?
The automation is easy to understand and create. It is good to link sheets together so that you can update one, and it will pull through to others, which helps separate the detail from the top-level analysis. Sheets are clear and simple enough to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is no way to test automation without using it in production, so you can not be sure it is working as expected unless you spend quite a lot of additional time setting up the sheet and automation to test it on yourself. This is less than ideal, and a simple solution would be to have a test function.
It can also be fiddly to set up more complex automation which pulls information from your sheet as you cannot see the column names, so you either have to screenshot/write down the columns or switch between the automation screen and your sheet.
Creating forms is also easy, but it is missing features like allowing people to save their progress and return later. This feature would be helpful for longer and more complex forms.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smarsheet helps me track progress on particular workstreams and it is able to send out reminders to people in my team and across the business more widely, which saves me time and work.
It also allows me to set permissions for others in the business, so they can see specific information pertaining to them, which helps avoid confusion and queries.

i like the program but the professional service was terrible
What do you like best about the product?
creating links between sheets and reports is great. and giving full visibility between departments has helped us a lot
What do you dislike about the product?
we have an enterprise account and used the services of the professional team to create a template and sheets that were tailored to us. but things were promised that was never going to work, and will never be able to use as it was programmed due to not being informed of the different levels of access for unlicensed users. i have had to creat most of the process my self which has taken time from my job that i didn't have. the people "helping
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
solving the issues we have had of lack of visibility from various departments. making sure all aspects of the project are completed and accounted for as well as making sure items are ordered correctly and on time

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use, once you get used to the different formula development and interlinking of different sheets. Handy templates provided.
The report generation using data from different sheets is very useful for PMO purposes.

What do you dislike about the product?
No integration to new AI engines such as ChatGPT, MidJourney etc. AI has a massive future and Smartsheet has been overtaken/outsmarted by its competitor Spreadsheet.com in this regard.
Having templates with prefilled fixed IDs is problematic. These should be able to be reset/wiped out allowing the user to start with their own system.
Smartsheet is more a capture/workflow/reporting tool. Excel is still tops for data analysis.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A valuable and simpler alternative to MS Project, especially for a startup business! Smartsheet can be used to run multiple projects and, with a bit of know-how, to build a PMO type overview. This has saved us a lot of money.

Great tool for your imagination
What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet is very easy to start using, and versatile in its application. A mix of project/spreadsheet and automation functionality makes it quite easy to set up not only for project management but for any business processes. It is also great for quick dashboards setup. With the link to other tools, like Resource Planning, and Calendar, users get even better controls in optimising visibility and traceability, either in a project or operational activity.
I'd suggest it is pretty much "no-code" solution builder; however, available templates make it quick to build an MVP for your specific process.

While it is a great easy start for small teams and simple reporting, the administration overhead and the need to get additional modules may hinder the adoption and become a burden for larger undertakings like program or portfolio management or automation of a business function. It is crucial to be aware of how some functions work across apps to build a solution for specific needs.
Some capabilities are not very robust, like no security on folders, only workspaces, and some limited formula functions compared to Excel. Also, Gantt chart visualisation ability is limited and building a high-level timeline for a project is a rather complex activity compared to MS Project. Tracking predecessors is a very manual process too, making it hard to use for complex interdependent schedules.

Smartsheet provides the program/project portfolio visibility and supports project teams in delivering projects. With the help of Smartsheet, we optimise time for reporting and enhance PMO's ability to support teams in executing projects in a more controlled environment.
Automation is your friend
What do you like best about the product?
You can get email updates as notifications, track changes and have a dashboard that output usual data. I used Smartsheet to manage projects, issue invoices, rostering, send automated reminders.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is some learning curve, a lot of formula are linked and if someone modifies something, everything linked gets affected. If someone accidentally delete some lines in a sheet and saved, you might not be able to recover them.

Metrics and data, Smartsheet helps me collect all the project information which are important for review and improvement of the business.
