Smartsheet Review - Saas Company

  • July 22, 2024

What do you like best about the product?
The sharing and collaboration that can be done across multiple projects is the best use case for Smartsheet. It allows you to stay organized across many projects that all have multiple underlying delievables. The ability to share, and makle sure many different team members are tagged with notifcations is super helpful
What do you dislike about the product?
The reporting and dahsboards are cujbersome to setup due to the need of helper columns and odd formatting needed to tie the sheest together. I also think not having the ability to have saved workflows that you can apply across all sheets shoudl eb added as a functionality.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
ABility to store and manage all project plans and underlying sheets needed for project tracking is our main use case. We alse use it for reporting to our executive team

Good Features, Needs a Better Package

  • July 22, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I think Smartsheet is a great way for teams to collaborate and stay organized. I like how easy it is for multiple people to edit simultaneously, and the tools/workflows found in Smartsheet are solid.
What do you dislike about the product?
It needs a separate app/program. I strongly dislike using web-based platforms. Like Asana, I think having Smartsheet in its own separate window where it's easy to tab around would be hugely beneficial.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest thing is that Smartsheet allows teams to collaborate easily, and in real time. I can be in a project at the same time as multiple other people and make changes at the same time as them.

Good start but needs improvement

What do you like best about the product?
I like that SmartSheet is collaborative with co-workers and can be automated in certain ways. It is a great central location to store files for all members to access and view/edit. Can be easily implemented into a work setting or team.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be difficult to use at times and edit certain things. When making timelines, it can be tedious to walk though all rows instead of auto populating. I am not a fan of the timeline template with SmartSheet.

Also would recommend an easy easy way to integrate Excel in a way updates can be made in a Excel sheet that automatically adjust in Smartsheet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solves the problem of having a central location of for timelines for all members being able to access to view/edit. Saves me time and energy and creates efficiency across multiple teams.

Simple and versatile tool for managing information with limited text

  • July 22, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Multiple views makes smartsheet work for a numer of different types of projects/workflows. Spreadsheet design allows for seeing lots of information at once. Easy to input new data (app & online), which leads to me using Smartsheet as my initial data entry point.
What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't a great way to input & store long-form writing. It is not a great tool for anything more than a few sentences. Sub-par text formatting options and poor long-form text viewing options.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Task list organzation. Smartsheet becomes my list of tasks that I can add all necessary info to (dates, files, notes) and categorize. I mainly operate in Grid view to add tasks throughout the day as I received emails/think of things to be done. I then switch to grid view to see each task by category when looking for what to work on.

I also use it as a simple CRM in collaboration with teammates.

Multiple use cases

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Using Smartsheet is very easy and intuitive. We learn on the go, it's very customizable and allows us to use it for several use cases in the team, inlcuding as a tracker (log) of requests and as a project management tool.
We also integrated it with Slack which is very helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
In our opinion, non-admin users have too few functionalities available for them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving several problems with Smartsheet, including:
1. It serves as a log (tracker) of external requests;
2. It serves as a system to submit requests using Forms.

Smartsheet helpful in a growing business

  • July 20, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Our company has used Smartsheet for study planning, timeline tracking, and resource allocation. As we are a small but growing business, it has been nice to have simple templates that everyone can follow. The included tutorials and example sheets are helpful starting points and ideas.
What do you dislike about the product?
One limitation is that the desktop app is basically just a web browser. It would be great to have a desktop app to allow working offline.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet is helpful at allocating resources. The ability to link cells across sheets and create summary views differentiates it from Excel and other task managers. The summary pages are extremely useful.

Powerful tool to track projects, resource allocation, and data, but not quite 100%

  • July 19, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of sharing SmartSheet within my organization, and with outside customer personnel, as well as associated field reps makes SmartSheet a critical tool to help remotely manage my projects. The ability to quickly adjust columns, adjust filters, and sort data all while others are working within the tool live has proven very helpful. The web-based format is intuitive and requires very little learning curve. While I utilize primarily the Sheets view that emulates the appearance of a spreadsheet, there are Gantt and Kanbai card views available to track tasking, as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
SmartSheet is column-based by design. Filters and sorting can be done only on columns, not by rows. While the format looks like a spreadsheet in Excel or Google Sheets, it does not behave that way. While the interface is intuitive, I often need to sort my data by row and am unable. I can export it to Excel and manipulate the data to get what I want, but this is a lot of extra work. Also, if I have a filter enabled, I'm not able to further sort other rows. Again, I need to export to Excel to work my data. My need to share data live to multiple external parties trumps the importance of these frustrations, so I will continue to work with it.

Lastly, there have been several times where I needed a query or formula to use to pull specific data together and I've found one doesn't exist. While the online support pages are robust, there are many people like me asking for what I'm looking for, but it appears the SmartSheet project team does not work to implement these requests in future builds. If customers continue to ask for something, we typically work to get it implemented in my business.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Shared collaboration between multiple internal and external sites is crucial and SmartSheet solves that problem well. Easy sharing, live updates, and visibility into who else is in the file at the same time is great. We're able to collaborate in real-time, each pull data needed to support our responsibilities and sort/filter as needed.

Good product but nickles and dimes you

What do you like best about the product?
Let me start out by saying that Smartsheets is a good product. Intuitive and very powerful. No problems with implementation except absorbant costs. We haven't integrated it with anything , like ServicNow, because it is an extra cost. My use is to produce metrics and it does a great job tracking things. I haven't had to call support so I cannot comment on that. But they did get the CISO on a call with us so that is a plus.
What do you dislike about the product?
Where I don't like Smartsheets is their approach to security. Stuff that is basic and should be free, but you end up having to buy the Enterprise Package and then another cost for the Platinum Package. You want SSO to manage your accounts through SAML 2.0 or Entra ID? Pay more. This alone gets them on the SSO wall of shame. You want events sent to a SIEM? Pay more. You want basic DLP funtionality to determine where your sensitive data like PHI or PII is so you can make sure it has the right protections? Pay more. That's ridiculous and a horrible business model. We actually ended up esclating and talking to their CISO. Not helpful unless you buy the Enterprise + Platinum Package.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My use case is tracking requests and producing metrics. Does a good job. Just wish I could integrate with ServiceNow without paying an exhorbant fee.
