FiveTran - The flexible yet durable ETL
What do you like best about the product?
Fivetran handles the simple UI well. Navigating and setting it up can be mainly done without documentation. The challenge we ran into before with other ETL's that had simple UI's is that they weren't very flexible. There would be rigid limitations in terms of the number of connections per account. Or how they would expect specific tables/fields to behave once selected for loading into a destination.
The best part was with Fivetran; all these minor caveats seemed to be handled and resolved.
Fivetran support system is excellent, as a support ticket is automatically created whenever any of your connectors have an issue. Helping you get a head start if a problem arises, which hasn't happened to me yet!
SSO was also a breeze to set up.

What do you dislike about the product?
The billing system is a bit confusing. While MAR seems like a simple concept, multiple rules make it a bit more complex to understand your bill at the end of the month. It is also pricier than its competitors.
It would be good to see more flexible schedule options. Utilizing the Quartz con expressions that other ETLs use would be a good addition.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A simple Extract and Load process that our internal staff for our clients could easily support.
The largest benefit of using Fivetran has a centralized location to handle all of our client's connections and destinations that is easily supported by a non-technical resource.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a shot for their trial period. Compare to other ETL's and go from there.

Simplicity of loading required data based on the schema information and the ability to transform the data as per our needs, all of them in one-go

As the number of data points to be ELT'ed becomes higher, the cost aspect is not suitable for startups. Therefore limiting the use or pressing us towards open source or scripting Solutions

Aggregating data from numerous sources to a single data warehouse.
Benefits: Ability to analyze disparate information sources in a single place rather than using multiple data sources and use excel sheet to understand them altogether.

It's huge catalogue of integrations, their reliability and the customer support

You need to be careful with the costs. With very high volume append only sources there may be cheaper alternatives

Integrating with many SaaS tools in an easy and fast way. It has saved us a lot of hours in development and maintenance

When schema changes, Fivetran will do a resync, which will generate a lot of MAR equivalent to money.

Fivetran provides us with significant data accuracy and data in real-time, which do great help.

What do you like best about the product?
The level of support we received when we purchased the product was excellent, and the people assigned to our account helped us get over the initial learning curve. The number of out-of-the-box connectors is also excellent as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The support portal needs some further work and is not as user-friendly as some other software vendors.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can extract and load data we produce and procure into our Snowflake Data Warehouse.

Make sure that you understand the sources of data you want to consume and ensure that the connectors are there available to you.

The fact that you can't add an entire database and select which tables to synchronize but instead create a connector for each table.

Nothing much to dislike but a reverse integration from warehouse to SaaS sources will also be a great addition

We are integrating Customer data across sales, support, and marketing to create a 360-degree view for the top management and concerned teams. This removes silos and disconnects, such as between sales and support. We are also running analytics on this data to help plan our sales/marketing capacity.

good list of connectors to work with. Each connector comes with schema of the source so makes it easy to work with.

SF connector does not have good cloud solution for syncing formula columns and lookup columns
