Overview
High-Performance Web Server (Nginx) on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS provides a fully configured, production-ready environment for serving web applications, APIs, and static content on AWS. Built on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS with security updates guaranteed through 2029.
This AMI includes Nginx pre-installed and optimized, Certbot with the Nginx plugin for automatic Let's Encrypt SSL certificate management, and fail2ban for brute-force protection. The system is configured with security headers, hidden version information, and a pre-tuned nginx.conf for production workloads.
Key components included:
- Nginx web server (event-driven, high concurrency)
- Certbot with Nginx plugin (automatic SSL via Let's Encrypt)
- fail2ban (intrusion prevention, auto-ban malicious IPs)
- curl and jq for scripting and API testing
- AWS CLI v2 for cloud resource management
The system is security hardened following best practices. SSH access uses key pair authentication only. Nginx server tokens are hidden. Security headers (X-Frame-Options, X-Content-Type-Options, HSTS) are pre-configured. Automatic security updates are enabled via unattended-upgrades.
This AMI is suitable for reverse proxying to backend applications, static website hosting, API gateway, load balancing across multiple servers, SSL/TLS termination, and serving high-traffic web applications.
Highlights
- Production-ready Nginx - Pre-configured with optimized settings, security headers, and hidden server tokens for immediate production use.
- Automatic SSL certificates - Certbot with Nginx plugin enables one-command HTTPS via Let's Encrypt. No manual certificate management required.
- Intrusion prevention - fail2ban automatically detects and blocks brute-force attacks against SSH and web services, enhancing server security.
