You pay by the hour for this Ubuntu 20.04 desktop image with GUI and RDP access. Pricing follows the EC2 instance type you choose to run it on. Each dimension maps to one instance size, so cost scales with the compute, memory, storage, or GPU resources that instance provides. Smaller instances like t2.nano or t1.micro carry lower hourly rates. Larger compute, memory, storage-optimized, and GPU instances such as c5.24xlarge, r5.24xlarge, and p3.16xlarge carry higher hourly rates. You select the instance that fits your workload and stop charges by stopping usage.

Am I charged when the instance is stopped, or only while it runs?
The software charge meters running hours only. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. A stopped instance can still incur underlying AWS storage fees for its attached volumes. To end all software charges, stop or terminate the instance.
What does the hourly rate cover for each instance type I choose?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance size. The rate covers the Ubuntu 20.04 desktop image with GUI and RDP access running on that instance. You pay per hour the instance runs. Underlying AWS compute charges for the instance are billed separately by AWS.
Is this pay-as-you-go, or do I commit to a term upfront?
This is usage-based pricing. You pay by the hour for each running instance with no upfront term commitment. Charges accrue only while the instance runs. This suits variable or short-term desktop workloads where you start and stop access as needed.
