Caching has boosted WordPress client sites and delivers consistently faster load times

    Reviewed on Aug 31, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for OpenLiteSpeed is hosting client websites, primarily WordPress sites with caching plugins connected to OpenLiteSpeed. I host many WordPress sites with medium traffic, and OpenLiteSpeed with its WordPress caching plugin helps me optimize them for load speed.

How has it helped my organization?

OpenLiteSpeed has positively impacted my organization by providing faster websites, resulting in more satisfied clients thanks to the caching. I have received positive reviews from clients stating that their sites now work snappily since switching from another server to OpenLiteSpeed with caching enabled.

    What is most valuable?

The best features OpenLiteSpeed offers include the caching plugin for WordPress and OpenLiteSpeed Cache connected to it. What I appreciate most about these features is the ease of configuration of the caching and the speed boost it provides.

    What needs improvement?

OpenLiteSpeed can be improved by addressing some minor misconfigurations in WordPress and caching, as something that is cached when it should not be is not always easy to pinpoint.

Improvements could be made by providing better documentation on caching and the WordPress plugin, including better guides on how to set it up depending on server resources and website type, whether it has active users or is a brochure website, and regarding the .htaccess file.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using OpenLiteSpeed for approximately eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In my experience, OpenLiteSpeed is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

OpenLiteSpeed's scalability meets my needs as I manage medium-sized companies at most.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

A long time ago, I used Apache and I use Nginx, but I use OpenLiteSpeed alongside them now.

    What about the implementation team?

xCloud - it was super easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    It's free!

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing OpenLiteSpeed, I evaluated Nginx as another option.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others looking into using OpenLiteSpeed is that it is great for small to medium WordPress sites when you configure your caching properly. OpenLiteSpeed is a great software that is progressing nicely, and I hope it will continue to do so. I lack experience with OpenLiteSpeed's AI capabilities, so I cannot comment on their accuracy and reliability. I have not used OpenLiteSpeed's AI capabilities. I would rate this product an nine out of ten.

    They charge for the software

    Reviewed on Jul 25, 2023
Review from a verified AWS customer

OpenLiteSpeed is the open source and freely available version of LiteSpeed. Paying $5 per month to use it is ridiculous.

You can run this software on your server yourself for free. I don't find it acceptable that they charge you $5 per month forever just to install it.

This image supports rewrite rules, so I can migrate some sites from Apache easily. And the page loading time is really fast with default configuration.

I had a lot of performance issues and server crashes, as well as intermittent connections via ssh, usually very bad, unlike ami-097344441c93a43a8 where I didn't have any issues.
