Overview
kagent is an open source, Kubernetes-native framework for building, running, and managing AI agents and MCP tools. It brings a declarative controller for agents and tools, MCP tool serving, a web UI, and pluggable LLM providers to Kubernetes. Solo.io publishes this open source distribution on AWS Marketplace for easy deployment.
This product deploys kagent to Amazon EKS (and EKS-Anywhere) via a Helm chart or EKS Add-on. It is intended for platform and AI engineering teams, DevOps engineers, and SREs running agentic and LLM workloads on Kubernetes.
Prerequisites: a default StorageClass with a working provisioner for the bundled PostgreSQL - on EKS install the aws-ebs-csi-driver add-on first (or use an external PostgreSQL via database.postgres.url) - and an LLM provider API key. kagent does not run any agents until a provider is configured. After install, create the provider Secret and a ModelConfig in the kagent namespace (see https://kagent.dev/docs/getting-started/configuring-providers ). Foundational Kubernetes knowledge is recommended.
Highlights
- Declarative, Kubernetes-native AI agents and MCP tool serving via a single controller.
- Pluggable LLM providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, Gemini, Ollama) and a built-in web UI.
- Open source project, packaged by Solo.io for easy deployment on Amazon EKS.

Usage instructions
kagent installs into the kagent namespace. Prerequisite: the bundled PostgreSQL needs a default StorageClass with a working provisioner - on EKS install the aws-ebs-csi-driver add-on first (or set database.postgres.url to an external PostgreSQL). kagent also needs an LLM provider API key to run agents: after install create the provider Secret and a ModelConfig in the kagent namespace (see https://kagent.dev/docs/getting-started/configuring-providers ).
