You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so pricing scales with the compute size you select. Smaller instances like t3.nano or m1.small carry lower hourly rates, while larger instances such as m7i.48xlarge or the u-series high-memory types cost more per hour. Compute families cover general purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, and machine learning instances. You choose the instance that fits your workload and pay only for the hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running Amazon EC2 instance of the type you pick, billed per hour. The rate covers the GigaOps WordPress Firewall software on Ubuntu 22 running on that instance. Underlying EC2 compute and storage are billed separately by AWS. Larger instance types carry higher hourly software rates.
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue software charges. You may still owe AWS for attached storage on stopped instances, but the software meters running hours only. Charges resume when you restart the instance.
