Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. There is no upfront commitment or fixed term. Pricing scales with the instance you select, not with separate feature tiers. The many options are all the same product delivered on different EC2 instance sizes and families, from small general-purpose types to large compute-, memory-, storage-, and accelerator-optimized types. Larger or more specialized instances carry a higher hourly rate. You match the instance to your workload size, and your hourly charge follows that choice.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the packaged software image, not WordPress licensing. You get a ready-to-run Ubuntu 20 build with WordPress, a firewall, security hardening, and updates. Underlying AWS infrastructure charges for the EC2 instance are billed separately by AWS.
The software fee meters running instance-hours. A stopped or terminated instance does not accrue software charges. Note that AWS may still bill for attached storage while an instance is stopped, but that is separate from the software rate shown here.
Switch to a smaller EC2 instance type from the list. The software is the same across all types; only the hourly rate changes with instance size and family. Match the instance to your traffic and resource needs, and your hourly charge follows that choice.
