Anka is a suite of software for creating and managing macOS VMs to run on top of Apple hardware and macOS. You pay by the hour based on the uptime of the EC2 Mac instance you run. Each dimension matches a specific Mac instance type, so your rate depends on the hardware you choose. Options span several Apple Silicon (ARM64) instance types, including mac2.metal, mac2-m2.metal, mac2-m2pro.metal, mac2-m1ultra.metal, mac-m4.metal, and mac-m4pro.metal. There are no tiers or upfront commitments. Billing is usage-based, so costs rise or fall as you start and stop instances. You can scale capacity up or down using the AWS Management Console or AWS CLI.

Am I charged when my EC2 Mac instance is stopped?
Billing meters the uptime of the running EC2 Mac instance. Hourly software charges apply while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing this hourly software charge. Note that AWS may still charge for the dedicated host during its required cleanup period, separate from the Anka software fee.
Does running several macOS VMs on one instance increase my software charge?
No. The hourly charge follows the uptime of the EC2 Mac instance itself, not the number of VMs. You can run more than one ephemeral macOS VM on a single instance at once. Packing multiple VMs per instance uses the hardware you already pay for.
Why do the six dimensions have different hourly rates?
Each dimension maps to a specific Apple Silicon EC2 Mac instance type, such as mac2.metal, mac-m4.metal, or mac2-m1ultra.metal. Your rate reflects the hardware you select. You pick the instance type that fits your workload, then pay the matching hourly rate for its running time.
