Tableau Prep makes it easier to handle complex data cleaning tasks, including unions, left joins, and calculated fields, with support for regular expressions. Its drag-and-drop visual interface helps me quickly aggregate and transform multiple distributor datasets without having to rely on custom SQL scripts.

In my experience, large Tableau Prep flows with multiple nested joins and extensive row-level calculations can run into performance bottlenecks. This sometimes results in slow processing times, and in some cases can trigger memory issues during flow execution.

Although basic drag-and-drop charts are fast to build, getting comfortable with more advanced work often takes time. Mastering complex calculations, LOD expressions, and table calculations typically requires significant training and a solid level of technical expertise.

Licensing for Creator, Explorer, and Viewer seats can become expensive quickly when rolled out across an enterprise. To keep it cost-effective, it usually requires careful planning and precise user management.

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau makes it easy to turn complex data into clear, interactive dashboards that are easy to understand and share. I especially like the ability to quickly filter data, identify trends, and present key metrics in a visually appealing way. It is very useful for communicating insights to both leadership and other stakeholders.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest downside is the learning curve. Basic dashboards are fairly easy to create, but more advanced calculations, data connections, and formatting can take time to learn. Some tasks that seem simple can also require more steps than expected, especially when trying to customize a dashboard exactly the way you want.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau helps bring data from different sources together and turns it into dashboards that are easier to understand and act on. It reduces the amount of manual reporting needed and makes it easier to identify trends, track performance, and share key metrics with stakeholders. This helps support faster, more informed business decisions.
