Utilizing seamless file storage and retrieval with robust user management features

    Reviewed on Apr 29, 2025
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We normally use Dropbox  for team collaboration and file backup. We use it to store files, share them online, and manage organized groups from our decade-long usage.

    What is most valuable?

Dropbox  is primarily used for storing and sharing files, along with backing up files. If someone deletes a file, we can retrieve it from Dropbox. It also features an admin console where we can easily manage users, see which user has access to which content, and how much space they are consuming.

    What needs improvement?

One area of improvement would be to allow multiple users to edit a file simultaneously and see edits in real time, similar to OneDrive. In Dropbox, once a file is opened on one system, it locks the file from others. It would be useful to have real-time collaboration features in Dropbox.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Dropbox for over a decade.

How are customer service and support?

Dropbox offers 24-hour support, both through chat and limited hour calls. They are very helpful, and if initial support does not resolve an issue, they escalate the call to senior staff.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use a mix of Dropbox and OneDrive. OneDrive is connected to our ID and Microsoft Teams  app for collaboration purposes.

    How was the initial setup?

Setting up Dropbox is simple. New users are guided through the process with pop-ups explaining how to add files.

What other advice do I have?

In our use case, Dropbox provides more control and security. I rate the overall solution eight out of ten. Improvements, such as real-time collaboration capability, could make it even more beneficial.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Work from anywhere and backup easily while being practical

    Reviewed on Jan 03, 2025
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use it just as a backup system on the cloud for my personal documents and pictures.

    What is most valuable?

It is very practical and so easy to upload and download files and carry on without my computer. I can work anywhere, and that's correct.

    What needs improvement?

I would like to have a document flow. Sharing documents with other people in the same division or department and being able to work without downloading the file would be ideal. Working online would be nice.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used it for maybe five years, yet only in a personal mode.

How are customer service and support?

The support is provided by a special area inside of the company. These are people who have the skills for technology issues. They try to configure and teach other people how to use it. We provide the support ourselves and do not have any support straight from Dropbox.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used SharePoint and ShareFile maybe five years ago for a specific project. I was only a user, not an administrator of the environment.

    How was the initial setup?

It is difficult to set up. I'd rate the solution maybe a six or seven out of ten.

    What about the implementation team?

Many of our employees are not technical people. They work in energy and are field workers. We have two main groups of people. One is for administrative issues, and the other, which is 70% of the company, consists of field workers. That is about 60 or 70 people, with maybe 12% needing to work with it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I would like to know how to use all of its features or used other options.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Dropbox, yet not for all of the features it has. I am a basic user. In a personal mode, we have about 100 employees, and maybe 20 of them use Dropbox as a personal backup system. ShareFile is more secure than Dropbox. Five years ago, ShareFile was qualified as having better security control, access privilege management, and version control recovery, among many features that we were using for private documentation.

Overall, I would rate Dropbox an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Public Cloud

Great file management and search functionality with room for better collaboration

What is our primary use case?

We use Dropbox  primarily for file storage and management.

    What is most valuable?

The search functionality and the ability to preview images are quite good. It's similar to managing files on my computer.

    What needs improvement?

Dropbox  needs to improve its integration with Google platforms, including Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Google Slides, which facilitate easier collaboration. I would also like to see features related to folder structure recommendations and enhanced encryption.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used the solution for around two years.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are considering switching from Dropbox to Google Suite because Google Suite offers better collaboration features.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We are using the free version of Dropbox.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I am considering switching to Google Suite.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I was using the free version of the product.

I have not tried the integration features associated with the product.

I haven't had a problem with the security features of Dropbox to meet our company's data protection needs.

I recommend the product to others who plan to use it.

I would tell others that Dropbox is a good tool to use since it is stable and reliable.

I rate the tool an eight out of ten.
