You pay by the hour based on the AWS EC2 instance size you run this 200 Mbps load balancing software on. Pricing is usage-based, so charges accrue only while an instance runs. The 15 options map to m3, m4, and m5 instance families across sizes from large through 16xlarge. Larger instances carry more compute capacity and a higher hourly rate. You pick the instance size that fits your traffic and performance needs. AWS infrastructure charges for the underlying compute are separate from this software rate.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Am I charged for the software when an instance is stopped or powered off?
Charges accrue only while the instance runs. Hourly software billing meters running time, so a fully stopped instance stops accruing the software rate. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from the software rate.
What does the 200 Mbps in the title mean for what I can run on each instance?
The 200 Mbps refers to the load balancing throughput capacity of this software listing. That capacity applies regardless of which instance size you pick. Larger instance families add compute headroom for the Layer 4-7 load balancing, SSL/TLS offload, and traffic management workloads, but the licensed throughput stays at 200 Mbps.
If I need a bigger instance later, does the cost change automatically?
No. You choose the EC2 instance size when you launch. Each size carries its own hourly rate, and larger instances cost more per hour. To move to a different size, you launch on that instance type. The change is manual, not automatic, so your rate follows the instance you actively run.
