SmartAMI SQLSplitter for Aurora powered by MariaDB MaxScale is a MySQL / MariaDB proxy server that forwards all write operations to master instances and all read queries to slave instances. SmartAMI MySQL Read Write Splitting Proxy server GUI helps to easily manage configured database servers. A simple web interface enables users to monitor the amount of queries sent to master and slaves. Virtually unlimited number of servers can be added or deleted easily from the interface. It is a tool that allows application developers to use a single IP address to access and monitor a cluster of database servers.

Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running EC2 instance measured by the hour. You pick an instance type, and each hour that instance runs adds one hour of software charges. Running more instances multiplies the charges, since each instance meters separately.
Software charges accrue only while an instance runs. Stopped or terminated instances stop the hourly software meter. You may still owe underlying AWS storage fees for stopped instances, but the software license bills running hours only.
The proxy layer and reader nodes scale automatically with workload, adding instances during busy periods and removing them when demand drops, such as at night. Since billing is per running instance-hour, your software charges rise and fall with the number of active instances.
