You pay by the hour for the software running on an Amazon EC2 instance you choose. All 17 options deliver the same pre-configured FFmpeg media-processing tool; they differ only by the underlying instance type. Choices span the t2, t3, t3a, and m4 families, sized from nano through 2xlarge. Larger sizes carry more CPU and memory, so the hourly rate rises with instance capacity. You are not locked into a term. Start, stop, or switch instance sizes anytime, and pay only for the hours each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the pre-configured FFmpeg software running on your chosen EC2 instance. You pay AWS separately for the underlying compute and any attached storage. FFmpeg itself is open-source; you are paying for the packaged, ready-to-run image on the instance size you select.
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs, billed per hour. When you stop or terminate the instance, hourly software charges stop. Note that stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, which are separate from the software charge.
You are not locked into any size. Stop your current instance and launch the FFmpeg image on a different instance type through the EC2 launch wizard. Billing then follows the new instance's hourly rate. This lets you match capacity to your video and audio processing load.
