You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen EC2 instance. Pricing scales with the instance you pick, not by features or user counts. The dimensions map to standard AWS instance families: general-purpose (t2, t3, t3a, m3, m4, m5, m5a), compute-optimized (c3, c4, c5), memory-optimized (r3, r4), storage-optimized (d2, i2), GPU (g2, g3), and high I/O (h1). Larger sizes within each family carry higher hourly rates because they provide more CPU, memory, or storage. You match the instance to your workload and stop charges when you stop the instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the size you pick, billed per hour. The software runs on that single instance. If you launch two instances, each accrues its own hourly software charge separately.
The software fee meters running time only. A stopped instance stops accruing software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached disk while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from the software charge.
You pay the hourly rate tied to whichever instance size runs. Moving to a larger size within a family raises the hourly rate, since it provides more CPU, memory, or storage. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance.
