Instead, it maps directly to the EC2 instance type you choose. The list spans many hardware families, including general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and GPU or accelerated types, in sizes from nano up to metal. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates. Your software cost scales with the instance size you run and stops when you shut the instance down.

What does one hourly unit cover, and what is running when I get charged?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance launched from this machine image. The image comes pre-configured with SonarQube Community Edition and a bundled backend database, ready on port 9000. You pay the hourly software rate for every hour that instance runs, per instance you launch.
Am I charged the software fee when I stop or shut down the instance?
The software fee meters running instance-hours only. When you stop or terminate the instance, the hourly software charge stops. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage costs for their attached disks, but those are AWS infrastructure fees, not the software charge.
If I switch to a larger instance type, how does my cost change?
Your hourly software rate is tied to the instance type you run. Moving to an instance with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware raises the hourly rate. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance type; there is no automatic upgrade or commitment.

Usage instructions
Spin up new instance using one-click from AWS console or aws cli or autoscaling options as your infrastructure provisioning process requires. The service would be up and running on port 9000 already.
SSH into the new instance as user ec2-user to perform additional configurations. Follow AMI documentation to configure SonarQube for your specific requirements.
Customers can use this AMI to build applications. It is up to the application developers where and how to store any sensitive information and to encrypt data in rest and transit and, for any such requirements, the customers may have to customize this AMI to meet the needs as determined by the working of the applications.
The AMI does not store any passwords or keys and it is up to the customers to rotate the secrets if that would be added as part of the customization. The AMI does not have any encrypted data that is needed for any build process.
