PostgreSQL is an open source object-relational database system that uses and extends the SQL language combined with many features that safely store and scale the most complicated data workloads. PostgreSQL comes with many features aimed to help developers build applications, administrators to protect data integrity and build fault-tolerant environments, and help you manage your data no matter how big or small the dataset. In addition to being free and open source, PostgreSQL is highly extensible. For example, you can define your own data types, build out custom functions, even write code from different programming languages without recompiling your database.
Kurian has released preconfigured software applications such as CMS platforms, Jenkins, databases, LAMP stack, Ansible, popular tools in DevOps toolchain, and monitoring applications that are widely used by system administrators and DevOps engineers. For selected Linux distributions hardened images based on CIS benchmark are also available. The Kurian AMIs are built following official installation steps so you do not need to learn any custom procedures if additional configurations need to be done.

You pay by the hour for this PostgreSQL Database Server machine image, billed for each hour a node runs. Pricing has one dimension: the EC2 instance type you choose to launch. The listing supports a wide range of instance types, from small general-purpose sizes to memory-optimized, compute-optimized, storage-optimized, and accelerated options. Each instance type carries its own hourly rate, so your cost scales with the compute, memory, and storage capacity you select. Software charges apply on top of the underlying AWS infrastructure cost. Larger instance types cost more per hour than modest ones.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What software is running on each instance, and is it ready to use at launch?
You get a machine image with the latest stable PostgreSQL, an open source relational database, on Rocky Linux 8. When you launch an EC2 node, the database service starts automatically on port 5432. You can SSH in to adjust configuration or connect remotely.
Am I charged for the software when the EC2 instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies while a node runs. A stopped instance stops accruing software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the stopped volume. The meter counts running hours only, so idle time you power off does not add software cost.
What if I need an instance type or configuration not listed here?
You choose from the instance types available in this listing. If you need a configuration not offered, the vendor accepts requests by email. Include the software name and version, the Linux distribution and version, and optionally the EC2 instance type you plan to run.
