This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for independent AWS packaging, validation, maintenance and setup documentation. Alexander Neumann and contributors publish restic under BSD-2-Clause; Software Sushi supplies the AMI recipe, pinned official linux/amd64 binary, first-boot repository password and init, loopback-only defaults, and setup documentation without claiming upstream endorsement.
Launch the approved version on t3.medium with at least 16 GiB encrypted root storage and at least 2 GiB RAM. Connect with AWS Systems Manager as ubuntu or restrict SSH to your administrative CIDR. First boot creates the repository password and runs restic init; nothing sensitive is baked into the image. restic does not listen on a TCP port. Keep credentials out of recordings and tickets.
The standard software fee is described in the AWS Marketplace offer terms. EC2, EBS and data-transfer charges are billed separately. See the offer terms for applicable billing promotions.
After launch, wait for cloud-init to finish, then follow the bundled README for configuration, backup and day-2 operations. IAM is optional until you point RESTIC_REPOSITORY at your own S3 bucket.

This listing uses one usage-based pricing dimension billed hourly on a t3.medium Amazon EC2 instance. You pay the software charge for each hour the instance runs, so costs scale with how long you keep it active. There are no tiers or quantity commitments to choose between. The image runs in your own AWS account. AWS infrastructure charges such as EC2 compute, storage, and data transfer are billed separately from this software charge. Any connected third-party services may also carry their own costs outside this listing.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What hardware do I get on the t3.medium hourly plan?
The software runs on a t3.medium Amazon EC2 instance, a general-purpose size with two virtual CPUs and 4 GB of memory. You launch it in your own AWS account. The hourly software charge applies to this instance size, and you control the region and access.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters each hour the instance runs. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Attached storage such as EBS may still incur separate AWS fees while the instance is stopped. The software bill tracks running time only.
What costs fall outside this software charge?
AWS infrastructure is billed separately, including EC2 compute, EBS storage, networking, and data transfer. Any connected external services you configure after launch may also charge for their own usage. You add your own credentials after launch, and those providers bill you directly.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
