You pay by the hour for a preconfigured image running Apache Guacamole with PostgreSQL on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Pricing scales with the EC2 instance type you select, not with tiers or feature levels. The software runs the same across every option; only the underlying compute changes. Choices span burstable t2 and t3 families for light or variable workloads, and general-purpose m4, m5, m6, and m7 families for steadier demand. Larger instance sizes offer more CPU and memory and carry a higher hourly rate. Bare metal options are also available. You add standard AWS infrastructure charges separately.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for each hourly instance charge?
Each hourly rate covers one running EC2 instance of the size you pick, preloaded with Apache Guacamole and PostgreSQL on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. The instance type sets the CPU and memory you receive. You launch and run one instance per hourly charge.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped?
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Stopped instances may still incur standard AWS storage fees for attached volumes, which are billed separately from the software rate.
How do the burstable t2/t3 families differ from the m-family instances for cost?
Burstable t2 and t3 instances suit light or variable workloads and generally carry lower hourly rates. General-purpose m4, m5, m6, and m7 instances provide steadier performance for continuous demand. You pick one type; its size and family together set your hourly cost.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources.
