Overview
This is a repackaged open-source software product wherein additional charges apply for support and for providing it in a simple consumable AMI. Docker CE can be used to deploy applications in a variety of environments, from small development machines to large production clusters. Docker CE can be used to build images from Dockerfiles. Dockerfiles are text files that contain instructions for building Docker images. Docker CE can be used to run containers from images. Containers are isolated environments that run on top of the host operating system. Docker CE can be used to network containers together. This allows containers to communicate with each other.

Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you launch. The seven options are all instance types, not feature tiers. Each carries the same hardened Docker CE image. The t3 family (nano, small, medium, large) scales from small burstable workloads up to more demanding ones. The m6a.large and m7i.large give general-purpose compute, while m7a.medium offers a smaller general-purpose option. Your cost rises with the size and capacity of the instance you pick. All charges appear as a line item on your monthly AWS bill.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You receive a pre-built machine image with a hardened Docker CE container platform on Ubuntu 24.04. The Docker daemon starts automatically on boot. You connect over SSH using your .pem key file. The vendor updates the image to address security issues, and 24/7 support is included.
The software charge meters running instance-hours. When you stop or power off the instance, hourly software charges stop accruing. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage for stopped instances, but that is separate from the per-hour software rate shown in the table.
Each instance type carries the same Docker CE image, so you can relaunch on a different size when needs change. Your hourly rate then follows the type you run. You pay only for the hours each instance runs, billed as a line item on your monthly AWS bill.
