Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the running software, billed per EC2 instance type you choose. Each dimension maps to one specific instance size, so your rate scales with the compute you select. Smaller shared-core instances like t3.small carry lower hourly rates, while large memory, compute, storage, and accelerated instances such as x2iedn.metal or p5.48xlarge carry higher rates. You pick the instance that fits your database workload, and pricing follows that choice. There are no tiers or upfront commitments; you only pay for the hours you run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The rate covers the running software licence and the packaged Oracle Database 21c Enterprise Edition image on that EC2 instance type. It includes the preconfigured sample database, listener, helper scripts, monitoring agents, and 24/7 support. AWS charges for compute, storage, and data transfer are separate and billed by AWS.
The software charge meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software rate. You may still pay AWS for attached storage, such as the root volume and the dedicated /u01 Oracle volume, while the instance is stopped.
The guide recommends m5.large or larger, with minimums of 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, and 20 GB disk. You choose one instance type at launch, and its hourly rate applies. To move to a different size later, you relaunch on that instance type and its rate applies.
