The AMI ships with the latest cumulative security patches for both Windows Server and Oracle Database. EBS volumes support encryption at rest using AWS KMS keys. Oracle Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) is available for tablespace and column-level encryption. The Windows Firewall is pre-configured to restrict Oracle listener port (1521) access, and Remote Desktop (3389) requires explicit Security Group rules. The image is scanned for known CVEs prior to each release.

What does one hourly unit cover, and what am I actually paying for each hour?
Each hourly unit covers one running EC2 instance of the type you select, bundled with the pre-installed Oracle Database 21c Enterprise software on Windows Server. The rate combines the software fee with your chosen instance size. AWS compute and storage charges bill separately from this software fee.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software fee meters only while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage for the 30 GB disk may still bill separately while stopped. Charges resume when you restart the instance.
Does a bigger instance type change the software fee, or only the compute cost?
The software portion is the same across every instance size. Your total hourly rate rises with the instance you pick because the compute cost grows with vCPU and memory. To lower cost, choose a smaller type; for production the vendor recommends m5.large or larger.
