Each dimension maps to one instance size, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage capacity of that instance. Smaller instances like t2.micro cost less per hour than large memory- or compute-optimized types such as x2iedn.metal. You are billed only for the hours you run, with no upfront commitment. The recommended starting point is m5.large, though you can select any listed instance to match your workload.

What does one hourly unit cover, and what software is included in the AMI?
Each hourly unit covers one running EC2 instance of the chosen type. The image includes Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition 11.2.0.4, a preconfigured sample database, a listener on port 1521, helper scripts, monitoring and management agents, and applied security patches. You also get 24/7 vendor support with a 24-hour response SLA.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped, and what triggers a rate change?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. Stopped instances stop accruing software charges, though underlying AWS storage fees may still apply. Your rate changes only if you launch a different instance type, since each type maps to its own hourly price. Switching is manual, not automatic.
What instance specification should I plan for, and are storage costs separate?
The vendor recommends m5.large (2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM) or larger. Minimums are 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, and 20 GB disk. Larger memory-optimized types suit production workloads. Storage is separate: you configure a 20 GB gp3 root volume plus a dedicated Oracle data volume, billed by AWS.
