What do I actually get for the Service usage charge, and how is it counted?
Service usage covers the managed data service you run, billed by the hour based on the plan size you select. The rate includes the underlying dedicated virtual machines, provisioning, monitoring, local backups, version upgrades, and security patching. Your service usage total scales with the CPU, RAM, and node count of your chosen plan.
How does my bill change if I add storage or run several services at once?
Each running service is priced independently by hour, then added together on one invoice. There are no bundle fees or cross-service licensing. Additional disk space charges apply when you add storage beyond your plan. Your bill changes only when you change something: a larger plan, extra storage, more services, or support.
Which dimensions drive most of my cost, and what does the monthly base fee cover?

What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Aiven Platform is for running database services. In my day-to-day work, application servers are hosted on the database, and this allows me to use open source services. Aiven Platform has managed service options for PostgreSQL and MySQL, which enables my applications to be hosted on those databases.
What is most valuable?
Aiven Platform offers excellent flexibility to fall back to other clouds when running on a single cloud, and the total cost of ownership is significantly less. Aiven Platform's cloud flexibility helps my team substantially through seamless migration from one cloud to another, and it provides 99.99% uptime.
Aiven Platform has positively impacted my organization by substantially reducing the total cost of ownership. The budget gets reduced by 20 to 30% when compared to other services available on other clouds.
I would like to highlight the MirrorMaker feature, which allows existing workloads to be backed up and provides a significant advantage. I can also leverage the BYOC (bring your own cloud) concept to have Aiven Platform services hosted on my own cloud infrastructure.
What needs improvement?
Aiven Platform is working fine for me, and I have no improvements to suggest at this time. I have nothing to add about needed improvements, as even small enhancements are not necessary for my current experience.

When I say I use it for managing databases and data services, I actually work with secured data storage, scalability, and backups. I also wanted to mention that it makes monitoring easier. It makes it easier to handle and analyze the data without managing infrastructure. That is an easier thing that they have made.
How has it helped my organization?
Aiven Platform has positively impacted our organization by improving efficiency through simplifying database management and reducing maintenance efforts, enabling faster development through scalable and secure cloud data services.
I notice that Aiven Platform reduces infrastructure and maintenance costs, saving both time and money. Its managed service enables faster deployment. I received a $300 credit to use up to a one-month free trial. I have been using that for now, allowing quicker scaling and less operational overhead, which helps teams focus on delivering features and business value more efficiently. That is a measurable result.
What is most valuable?
The best features Aiven Platform offers in my experience are the easily managed databases and data services, automatic backups and recovery, high scalability and performance, real-time monitoring and alerts, and the multi-cloud support which includes AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure, alongside simple setup and maintenance. It is an easy cloud deployment which saves time and reduces operational time and efforts.
Among those features, the one that stands out most is the automatic management and scalability, as it reduces the operational workload, ensures reliability, and allows the team to focus on building applications instead of managing infrastructure. That is the one tool I will be recommending as most favorable.
Aiven Platform delivers highly accurate and reliable outputs with consistent performance. The managed services, monitoring, and high availability features help to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime, highlighting the accuracy and reliability of the output.
What needs improvement?
Aiven Platform could be improved by offering more detailed monitoring and analytics, additional customization plan options, enhanced cost operation insights, and more comprehensive data for advanced use cases.
On a day-to-day basis, I highlight the need for improving dashboard navigation by providing clear cost visibility. There are navigational complexities that exist. If you can provide clear cost visibility, it will help reduce friction and improve the user experience.
Regarding Aiven Platform's AI capabilities, I think it could improve by providing more granular role-based access control, enhancing audit logging, clearer compliance reporting, and more centralized policy management for governance and security.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working in my current field for the past one year. I have been using a database for around two to three years. I have been using database tools for college projects and other purposes.
Specifically, I have been using Aiven Platform for around five to six months, but for the past three to four months I have not used it because I had other work to do and I have never been into databases or this type of hosting. For the past one month, I have been using Aiven Platform again.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Aiven Platform is stable in my experience. It enables us to manage a database automatically, retrieve data, and store data. It is truly stable in our workplace.

Before I wrap up, I would reiterate that everything is easily made, and Aiven Platform will automatically retrieve data. Particularly for managing a database, Aiven Platform is very good. Even for deployment, it is good, but I have not used it much for deployments. I rate this product an eight out of ten.

My main use case for Aiven Platform is Apache Kafka for event streaming.
A specific example of how I use Apache Kafka for event streaming with Aiven Platform is in a project called Dr. Q, which has multiple services. When I have events in one service and want to publish them for other services to consume, I use Aiven Apache Kafka for the producer and the consumer, making communication between the services easier. I use it to stream events between services.
Apart from the communications for large data streamings such as streaming for videos and video calls, I also use Apache Kafka when I want to stream large data and videos.
What is most valuable?
Based on my experience with Aiven Platform, the best feature it offers is Apache Kafka, which is top-notch and one of the best services I have used.
What makes Apache Kafka stand out for me on Aiven Platform is its reliability, which is very important because when I'm streaming events, I do not want to lose my data. The fact that it is reliable and scales automatically is crucial for my work when streaming large events so that my services do not break down.
The automatic scaling feature is very important because it eliminates the need to manually manage the scaling for Kafka, making it a significant advantage.
Aiven Platform has positively impacted my organization because it is reliable and scalable, which is crucial as there is a lot of data being consumed and exchanged between services. What needs improvement?

The downtime decreases from seventy to twenty percent, which is noteworthy. Also, the events are delivered in real-time, which improves faster data processing from twenty percent to sixty percent, making these statistics very important for us.

Previously, I used the Confluent platform, but I switched back to Aiven because the cost of Confluent was too high.

What is our primary use case?
I first used Aiven Platform five years ago when I was in college for various projects, which included using SQL for my RAG bots and SQL for a finance analysis tool. Last year, I also used it for SQL databases and tools.
My main use case for Aiven Platform currently is the SQL database, as I use Aiven Platform's SQL hosted database for my MVPs, such as RAG tools, finance analyzers, archaeology chatbots, or other MVPs which include the usage of SQL databases.
My first MVP was built using Aiven Platform and Tesseract OCR. In this project, I asked users to upload their passbook, which was completely encrypted and never stored in any database. Once uploaded, the AI analyzed the passbook data against pre-configured settings to suggest products based on their spending behavior, specifically using SQL to analyze the data with pre-configured data stored on Aiven Platform.
In addition to my previous projects, I used Aiven Platform for building another MVP, specifically a pipeline for image classification where I built an integrity checks tool that can run a batch job on the cloud. This allows me to analyze hundreds and thousands of images and store results on whether the person is cheating or not.
What is most valuable?
The features I like about Aiven Platform include the cloud platform and the database hosting. One of my favorite features is SQL hosting, which is provided by very limited platforms, offering free SQL hosting that is more than sufficient for my MVPs and significantly aids in building products around SQL.
The performance of Aiven Platform is quite good, as I have not seen any downtime, and it is very reliable, with backups in place, allowing me to fetch data without experiencing any high latency, even as a free tier user.
Many workflows, including integrity pipelines, are positively impacted by Aiven Platform, which is also very cost-efficient, making it beneficial for my projects.
What needs improvement?
I would appreciate more documentation of workflows in Aiven Platform, such as details on Cloud jobs and GCP buckets, since having additional resources would be beneficial.
If Aiven Platform provides enhanced documentation, it will address many needs. While I have not faced any friction with the UI, slight improvements regarding integration guidance would be great.
